Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Reviews Hail a Triumphant Return
If you haven't noticed, Konami is back, and the once-great Japanese publisher is finding its feet again by farming its properties out to hungry younger developers all over the world. This has worked pretty well for Silent Hill, and now it's Castlevania's turn with Castlevania: Belmont's Curse. The first mainline installment in the vampire action series in over 10 years, Belmont's Curse was made by Dead Cells support studio Evil Empire. (The groundwork for this collaboration was laid with the 2023 mashup Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania.)
Mike Flanagan settles a major debate about Carrie’s season 1 finale
Mike Flanagan's new Carrie show ends with prom. Because of course it does. Ending Carrie in any other way would be sacrilegious. However, the Prime Video series makes plenty of changes to the source material, and these lead to one particularly ambiguous moment right at the height of the iconic prom scene. In a Zoom interview, Polygon asked Flanagan to clarify exactly what's happening in that sequence, and his answer reveals a fascinating idea at the heart of the entire show.
Dragon Quest Creator Has a New Game, but It’s AI-Generated
Yuji Horii, creator of the Dragon Quest franchise, used Claude to develop and release a browser-based video game in less than an hour. While it resulted in some backlash, Horii expressed how impressed he was with the tool and praised AI for significantly reducing development time and increasing efficiency.
Doctor Who Is Getting a Christmas Special After All
When the BBC put Doctor Who up for competitive tender, it brought terrible news for Whovians who had been waiting for more information about the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special. This year, there wouldn't be one, as both showrunner Russell T. Davies and production company Bad Wolf threw in the towel to make way for new creatives to lead the series into a different era.
13 Years Ago, ’Rick and Morty’s Most Horrifying Episode Changed the Series Forever Forever
Rick and Mortymocked A Nightmare on Elm Streetin the series’ second episode, “Lawnmower Dog,” and the show has kept parodying horror movies ever since, most recently mashing up The Santa Clause and Prometheus in season 9’s “The Last Temptation of Jerry.” Most of these episodes focus on meta gags in the same way the show pokes fun at movies across genres from Total Recall to Freaky Friday. But one episode genuinely leaned into horror and transformed the entire series.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Is a Near-Perfect Metroidvania

From its bold use of color that makes the gothic visuals pop, to a new card-based Arcana system, Belmont’s Curse breathes new life into these games while honing in on what makes this series special.
Scarlett Johansson’s Irresistible R-Rated Sci-Fi Thriller Is Now Free to Watch on Streaming
In the internet era, plenty of movies have gotten a sort of secondary fame by virtue of what you might call clip culture. One scene, or one joke, or even just one frame can go viral, independently of the movie that it's in. Everyone's seen that GIF of Chow Yun-fat giving a thumbs-up, but only a relative handful of people know it's from A Better Tomorrow II. There's a lot going on in Tobe Hooper's Lifeforce, but most horror fans only know of it because of Mathilda May's nudist vampire.
20 Years Ago, the Best Sci-Fi Show of the Century Delivered the Most Epic Space Battle in TV History
Two decades later, this spectacle from Battlestar Galactica season 3’s “Exodus, Part 2” remains unforgettable sci-fi TV. It’s dazzling and horrifying, and still one of the coolest things ever broadcast on science-fiction television. From a tactical standpoint, the “Adama Maneuver” is absolutely bonkers and one of the riskiest spaceship tactics, perhaps ever (sorry, Vice-Admiral Holdo). What if the ship had gotten torn apart from ripping through the atmosphere? What if the FTL drive malfunctioned or didn’t activate in time?
6 darkly funny Far Side comics starring the devil
Back in the 1980s and 1990s, nothing in the comic strip section of the newspaper was quite as dark as The Far Side. InPeanuts, Lucy van Pelt pulling the football away from Charlie Brown as he was about to kick it is about as dark as things got. In Garfield, the lazy cat’s darkest running gag also revolved around a kick — when he’d kick Odie the dog off a table.

John Cena’s Latest Nostalgia-Fueled Action Movie Is a Hit on Apple TV
John Cena has carved out an unexpectedly varied career as a leading man, bouncing between raunchy comedies, superhero blockbusters, and the occasional offbeat family adventure. He’s played a hard-partying dad in The Vacation Friends, joined the plastic-fantastic world of Barbie as a mermaid, and suited up as the unhinged Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad before taking that character to HBO.
All classes and unlock requirements in Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave classes work a bit differently than you might be used to if you played Three Houses. They come in several tiers, similar to Three Houses, but some of the intermediate classes only unlock if you meet certain conditions. Master-rank classes are locked behind completing certain quests in Act 3, and the final class tier is hidden away in shrines you can only access very late in the game.
New 90% Positive Steam Roguelike Is a Faithful PSP-Era Comeback
Once upon a time, Sony was one of gaming’s most eclectic publishers. That might be hard to imagine considering that it is hyper-focused on a specific brand of cinematic storytelling these days, but platforms like the PlayStation Portable were once home to a bevy of inventive first-party games that were hard to replicate. There’s no better example of that than Patapon, a unique rhythm action series about marching eyeball critters. It was a one-of-a-kind idea, the type of special game you’d be hard-pressed to find from a major publisher in 2026.
Epic Games Delays Marvel and Star Wars Crossover Game Amid Generative AI Push

The Fortnite and Unreal Engine maker is now reportedly pushing the game's developers to use generative AI tools, like Anthropic's Claude, to complete development. The crossover shooter game was previously slated for March 2027, but is now without a new release date.
Classic YA Survival Novel Officially Getting a Netflix Film Adaptation
If you’re of a certain age, there’s a good chance you were traumatized by the young adult survival novelHatchet after being forced to read it in elementary school. You were probably particularly disturbed by the part when the main character, Brian, found a dead body partially consumed by fish. Then you spent the rest of your childhood thinking about what you’d do if you were trapped in the wilderness.

Ben Affleck Names Justice League His Career ‘Low Point’
Before Robert Pattinson adorned the bat ears and cape in Matt Reeves' The Batman, Ben Affleck was the caped crusader. He was supposed to direct, produce, co-write, and star in his own solo Batman movie before he ultimately stepped away, leading to Pattinson and Reeves starting the "Epic Crime Saga." As such, Affleck only starred in the role in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017's Justice League. (He also had a bit part in 2023's The Flash).

Square Enix has found a lot of success in recent years revisiting the 1990s in a variety of ways, whether it’s the HD-2D remake 1994’s Live A Live back in 2022 or this year’s diorama-inspired 3D remake, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined. The company’s first offering in this vein for 2027 is a remake of a SNES game known for its non-linear storytelling, multiple protagonists, and unusual minigames — Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United.
Pokémon TCG Drops For Its Hottest Set Are Constant Now, But There’s A Catch
Before the Pokémon 30th Anniversary collection took over the trading card game world, the hottest set on the market was undoubtedly Ascended Heroes. Finding Ascended Heroes cards has historically been much harder than sourcing other sets, 30th included, thanks to its age. The set is an old one, and recent Pokémon products typically make up the bulk of new distribution shipments. There are two notable exceptions to this trend lately, but Pokémon fans need memberships and patience to take advantage of it.
‘Wires Crossed’ quest walkthrough in Arc Raiders
The "Wires Crossed" quest inArc Raiders wants you to obtain three specific Arc parts, then go to three different maps and attach said parts to antennas. While the game tells you everything you need — which parts and where to go — it's still a tricky quest to complete, because those parts are by no means easy to find, and the prompts to interact with at each location are also somewhat hidden.

'GTA 6' Leaker's Naked Lucia Gamble Just Backfired Massively
For a while, it seemed like Take-Two and Rockstar Games were facing a doomsday scenario that could have seen a playable build of Grand Theft Auto 6leakedto the public a month before its official release. Cyberleek, the leaker behind the scheme, was encouraging people to invest at least $30 million into a meme cryptocurrency in order to earn GTA 6's apparent development build. To reach that number, the leaker tied early investment milestones to footage of GTA 6 co-protagonist, Lucia Caminos, fully nude.

You need to find a lookout tower, raider camp, then a large antenna, and it'll take you all across the coastal town.

In other words, you can count on seeing many more internet scary stories on the big screen in the near future.

One of the Year’s Best Games Is Officially Out on Phones. God Help Us All
As 2026 gets into its home stretch, I’ve found myself reflecting on all the games I’ve enjoyed so far this year. One game in particular has held up as a genuine best-of-the-year, despite releasing in April and summarily getting followed by a months-long stretch of instant classics. Yes, I’m talking about Vampire Crawlers: The Turbo Wildcard From Vampire Survivors.

14 Years Later, One of Gaming’s Scariest Ghost Stories Is Still Worth Playing
You can see yourself in a good ghost story, or at least part of yourself. It might be a hidden part that you fear, a reflection you don't want to see, or even a noble trait that proves to be your undoing. That recognizable element of humanity is what separates the classics like M.R. James' stories or Shirley Jackson's more macabre tales from the likes of Stephen King. The House in Fata Morgana sits resolutely in the former category and ranks among the top eschelon of ghost literature.
‘Empathetic Prototypes’ quest walkthrough in Arc Raiders
The "Empathetic Prototypes" quest in Arc Raiders is one that is proving to be incredibly difficult for players following the "Frozen Trail" update, because while there are two ways of completing it, you either need a rare key, or some serious acrobatic skills to make it work. This quest is all about searching for some android friends for Lance, and it all must be completed in one round on Spaceport.
First-Person Soulslike Valor Mortis Is Brutal, Frightening, and Strangely Chill
Valor Mortis, a first-person Soulslike action RPG developed by One More Level (the studio behind the Ghostrunner games), takes place in an alternate version of the Napoleonic Wars. Ben Affleck’s New Netflix Thriller is a Massive Global Streaming Hit
We live in a world where a junky-but-fun-looking movie with a big star attached can come out of nowhere on streaming, with little marketing, and completely dominate the viewing habits of half the globe for a weekend or two. A few weeks ago, it happened with The Whisper Man, starring Robert De Niro. This week, it's the turn of Ben Affleck with Animals, an L.A.-set crime thriller also featuring Kerry Washington, Gillian Anderson, and Stephan Yeun.

The series has become enormously popular, in large part because of its best-selling audiobooks performed by Jeff Hays. On Reddit, Facebook, TikTok, and other online places where DCC fans congregate, listening speed is a hot topic, with some bragging about listening to the book at double its normal speed and beyond, while many wonder what’s wrong with the few people who listen to it at its standard 1.0 speed.

33 Years Later, Tom Cruise’s Near-Perfect Legal Thriller Is Officially on Streaming

From dangling off a skyscraper in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol to running for his life in War of the Worlds to navigating the increasingly bizarre events of Eyes Wide Shut, Cruise is always at his best when the stakes are high and the people around him can’t be trusted. His latest, Digger, is another reminder that there’s rarely a dull moment when Cruise is in the lead.
66 Years Later, Alfred Hitchcock’s Most Perfect Thriller is Officially Streaming on Netflix
Sometimes, when you finally watch some great, important, landmark film for the very first time, the experience of actually sitting down to absorb it doesn’t quite live up to all the hype. Maybe you can appreciate its place in cinema history or whatever, but that doesn’t mean it’s actually all that entertaining (I kind of felt this way about Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights). With the disadvantage of time and the advancement of modern pacing and filmmaking techniques, some classics just don’t hold up.
5 Exciting Games Stuck In Development For More Than 10 Years
However, some games get stuck in what is referred to in the industry as "development hell." Others get canceled when the studio heads or publisher decides it's not worth the investment for the end product anymore. Meanwhile, some remain stuck in that cycle. Here are five games that have been in development for more than 10 years and still haven't been released (though some are, finally, near on the horizon).

8 Best Cyberpunk 2077 Replacement Games
If the recent re-release of The Witcher 3 gave you some Cyberpunk 2077 blues, at least know there are plenty of alternatives. Its developer, CD Projekt Red, did not invent dystopian neon, and there are many titles out there that either show up in full cyberpunk gear or have a similar feel – including these eight games like Cyberpunk 2077. Some are closer to Night City than others. All are full of bad systems, worse people, and reasons to keep playing anyway.
Nintendo Should Add Wii to Switch Online Just For These 12 Classic Games
There’s no shortage of gems in the Wii library, and they didn’t all come from Nintendo itself. Thinking back on some of the games that people missed at the time, it’s easy to argue that Nintendo should add Wii to Switch Online sometime soon, if only so we have another chance to play classic games like the 12 on this list.
11 Replay Ideas to Make Stardew Valley Feel New Again
Stardew Valley never really tells you when you’re done — which is both a blessing and a curse. So let’s say your farm’s paid off, every villager’s at 10 hearts, and your Community Center’s stuffed to the brim: How do you bring back the same sense of wonder to a new Stardew Valley run when you already know which crops turn a profit and which villagers to date?

Buffy also subverted established horror tropes and consistently mastered the “monster-of-the-week” format in a way few shows could in the late '90s. Stigma and stereotypes were broken all the time. Buffy never treated femininity and world-altering strength as mutually exclusive.

If you've been playing Control Resonant nonstop since it launched, there's a good chance you're nearing the end. Love it or hate it, Control Resonant is a wholly unique action RPG that's hard to follow.

Star Wars Has a Real Shot at GOTY for the First Time in 23 Years
Both games have been received with acclaim by critics, especially the innovative Galactic Racer. Their releases have been well-timed to stand out for consideration at The Game Awards in December, too. But Star Wars has a checkered history at TGA — and gaming awards in general. And while Zero Company and Galactic Racer are better placed for success at the awards than almost any other Star Wars games of the last two decades, they might still struggle for recognition.
Stephen King’s Favorite Stephen King Movie, That Critics Hated, Is Officially on Netflix
Stephen King has never hidden his contempt for movie adaptations of his books that he felt failed to live up to the source material. His reasons range from thinking they are exploitative and crude (as he did with Ralph S. Singleton’s Graveyard Shift), to feeling they ignore the original novel’s themes (Paul Michael Glaser’s The Running Man).
65 Years Later, The Greatest ‘Peanuts’ Comic Strip Ever is Still an Adorable Masterpiece
Seventeen thousand, eight hundred and ninety-seven. That’s how many Peanutscomics Charles Schulz created over the 50 years that he wrote and drew his beloved comic strip. Peanuts debuted on Oct. 2, 1950, began publishing Sunday strips on Jan. 6, 1952, and concluded its legendary run on Feb. 13, 2000. That’s a heck of a lot of comics, which makes determining the very best one — which I attempted to do here — a rather daunting task.
5 Perfect Animated Movies on Netflix Better Than ‘KPop Demon Hunters’
KPop Demon Hunters debuted on Netflix in June 2025, and in short order, everyone lost their minds. The movie received hundreds of millions of views and even made its way into theaters, a very rare feat for a Netflix Original that started out on the streaming platform. The phenomenon was so big and so unexpected that retail companies are still scrambling to capitalize on it with merchandise like Lego sets and video games.
Gary Larson’s 10 Greatest ‘Far Side’ Comics, Ranked
What, exactly, is the measure of greatness when it comes to comic strips? The daily newspaper comic is a very limiting art form, with only a few panels — sometimes just one panel — to make a joke. Because of its brevity, it's easy to trivialize the medium as simply the “funny papers,” a daily, disposable art form designed to pick you up after reading the actual news.
Forget a ‘Halloween’ Rewatch, Dan Stevens’ Best Horror Movie Is a Slasher Surprise
Wingard's latest also came with an intriguing caveat that may have been a turnoff for casual theatergoers: Onslaught exists in a shared universe with his previous indie horror flick, The Guest.
13 Years Later, Little Finger’s Best ‘Game of Thrones’ Quote is Still a All-Time Great HBO Line
If you’re a fan of everything George R.R. Martin wrote related to Game of Thrones, you’ll know the iconic fantasy series doesn’t pull its punches when it comes to phenomenal quotes. You have the iconic words of House Stark, “Winter is coming,” as well as the unnerving and brutal “Power is power” from Cersei Lannister. No matter which Game of Thrones character is your favorite, they'll eventually say something poetic.
26 Years Ago, ’Buffy’s Worst Character Got the Replacement He Desperately Needed
Xander’s status as the quintessential “comic relief” has often been tainted with a sense of “nice guy” entitlement and instances of flippant misogyny. Compared to Willow (Alyson Hannigan) or Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter), who are brilliant examples of dynamic character growth, Xander’s arc feels relatively stagnant. There’s an inconsistency in his emotional maturity, while the writing has often allowed him to shirk accountability in a meaningful way.
Blade Runner 2099’s New York Comic Con Trailer Teases A New Replicant Conspiracy
At New York Comic Con, Prime Video premiered a new trailer for Blade Runner 2099, which will come out next month. The new trailer offers up a deeper look at one of the show's central mysteries and the relationship between Hunter Schafer's Cora and Michelle Yeoh's Olwen.
2024’s Most Inventive Slasher Movie Officially Sets Sequel Release Date
Horror fans are currently in the midst of Spooky Season, but there are plenty of slasher scares still on tap for the winter. That includes the highly anticipated sequel to 2024's In A Violent Nature, the inventive microbudget slasher movie that puts a twist on the supernatural serial killer formula.
Forget John Wick, the Ultimate Action Thriller of the Century Is Officially Streaming on Netflix
Some of my favorite movies are about ordinary dudes who turn out to be a nightmare for anyone dumb enough to cross them. Pierre Morel’s Taken twisted Liam Neeson into the patron saint of revenge. Then came John Wick with an angry Keanu Reeves to perfect that very specific formula. More recently, Nobody proved there’s still plenty of mileage left in watching a highly dangerous man decide retirement isn't for him, especially when you add a bit of levity to it.
Naruto To Get New Manga, Crossover Anime, And More Before The End Of The Decade
Naruto had a big presence at New York Comic Con this year, confirming several new projects coming next year or so. These projects kick off a roadmap called Project Rasengan that runs through 2029 and includes a new crossover anime with Ninku, a new manga by series creator Masashi Kishimoto, and more.
Warner Bros. 41-Year-Old Fantasy Classic Reboot is Officially Happening
It's been more than five years since Warner Bros. and Adam Wingard (Godzilla vs. Kong, The Guest) announced plans to make a live-action film adaptation of the '80s classic cartoon ThunderCats but there's been little to show for it. Wingard's passion project has taken a back seat to blockbuster fare such as Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and A24 action-thriller Onslaught (which is now streaming), but the director gave Polygon a (mostly) positive update on his ThunderCats project this summer.
Henry Cavill's New Sci-fi Streaming Series Sets Carrie Reboot Creator to Direct
The grim darkness of the far future is ripe with horrors, so who is better than a legendary horror director to be attached to the upcoming Warhammer 40,000 Prime Video live-action adaptation starring Henry Cavill? That's why Warhammer creator Games Workshop has tapped United Artists and Mike Flanagan — whose new adaptation of Stephen King's Carrie is topping streaming charts — to helm the project.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Returns For Its Final Season Early Next Year
At New York Comic Con, Paramount hosted a panel celebrating Star Trek's 60th anniversary. Before the panel moved on to a hilarious conversation between Ben Stiller and William Shatner, some of the cast and crew of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy came on stage to tease the second (and final) season and reveal when we can watch it.
10 Stephen King Movie Adaptations That Are Better Than The Books
In some cases, like The Lawnmower Man (1992), the adaptation has little to no connection to King’s original story — and isn’t well-made, either. Then there’s Andy Muschietti’s Itmovies, which have plenty of merits and even make some improvements, despite their flaws. By streamlining King’s stories, expanding certain characters, or making audacious departures from the books, they improve upon his work in unexpected ways. Here are 10 Stephen King movies that are better than the books they adapted.
Russell Crowe’s New Crime Netflix Thriller Is Officially a Streaming Hit
Netflix really seems to have a thing for notorious criminals. In September, the streamer brought viewers Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, the latest installment in Ryan Murphy’s serial-killer anthology, while now it has turned its attention to one of America’s most infamous domestic terrorists.
10 Essential GameCube Games Still Missing From Switch Online
GameCube games have been available on Nintendo’s Switch Online service for well over a year at this point (at least for those who subscribe to the Expansion Pack add-on). But despite the GameCube’s robust catalogue of terrific games, the Switch Online offerings remain slim.
Disney World and Disneyland Official Price Surge Concerns Attendees
Disney has raised ticket prices at both Disneyland and Disney World parks. Not all ticket types have been affected by these changes, however. There are still options that allow fans to visit the theme parks for a more affordable price.

The second season of the Black Clover anime premiered on October 3, and in the week since its release, it has set a record on the anime streaming service Crunchyroll. As it stands, the first episode of Black Clover Season 2 is the most-liked anime premiere of 2026.
59 Years Later, Star Trek’s Definitive Time-Travel Episode is Getting a Major Update
Some television episodes eventually become bigger than the shows they’re a part of. “The City on the Edge of Forever” isn't quite bigger than Star Trek, but nearly 60 years after it first aired, it remains one of the franchise's most celebrated hours.
7 Final Fantasy Games That Deserved Better
Trick question: How many Final Fantasy games are there? Sure, Square Enix has made plenty of sequels and spinoffs over the years in addition to the mainline 16 games. But you might not realize there’s been more than 100 Final Fantasy games since the series got its start on the NES back in 1987. Even if you’re a series superfan, odds are you haven’t played most Final Fantasy games.
7 Switch 2 Characters Nintendo Should Add to the Next Super Smash Bros
We’re well over a year into Nintendo’s Switch 2 era, and the hits keep on coming. Games like Donkey Kong Bananza, Pokémon Pokopia, and Splatoon Raiders have helped to reinvent Nintendo’s most reliable franchises, while games like Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave have only increased the quality bar for stalwart ones. The extent to which things have changed may not be apparent yet, but they’ll be crystal clear once Switch 2 gets its all-but inevitable next Super Smash Bros. game.
WandaVision Creator Set To Develop New Stargate Series
After a failed attempt, Amazon MGM Studios is once again developing a Stargate series. According to Variety, the company is bringing on Jac Schaeffer, the showrunner of one of Disney Plus's most successful shows, WandaVision.
Avatar: Seven Havens is a brilliant take-down of Korra’s biggest haters
The Korra series finale — as later seen in high-definition under normal connection speeds — is still one of my favorite endings (and favorite TV shows) of all time. But it’s hard to ignore the flaws; from a slashed budget that forced the animators to rely on still images for some pivotal scenes instead of fluid animation, to a planned kiss between Korra and Asami that studio executives rejected in favor of some charged hand-holding, the finale leaves a lot to be desired.
I Have Discovered The Best Game Soundtrack of 2026 and It Is Super Woden: Rally Edge
Video game soundtracks are pretty respectable these days. Earlier this year, I watched James Bond composer David Arnold take the stage at the BAFTA Games Awards and pay tribute to the medium before presenting an award to Toma Otowa for the Ghost of Yōtei soundtrack. After a sustained campaign for recognition by a PR friend of mine, UK classical music radio station Classic FM now frequently plays video game scores. It's small wonder, really;

New Paranormal Activity Movie Will Bring the Franchise Back to its Roots
The eighth installment in the Paranormal Activity series is set to release on May 21, 2027, 20 years after the original and six years after the last film in the franchise. Details about the plot are still unknown, but we learned at New York Comic Con that the movie will take fans back to Katie and Micah's house from the first movie.
Magic’s Next Marvel Set Just Revealed a One Ring Replacement That Can Destroy the Whole Table
Playing The One Ring in a game of Magic feels a lot like slipping Sauron’s evil piece of jewelry onto your finger. It promises tremendous power, but the more you rely on it, the more rapidly it destroys you. That combination of protection and escalating card advantage has also made it one of Magic’s strongest cards across multiple formats. That’s why it got banned in Modern and Historic and was even flagged as a Game Changer in Commander.
Ray Gunn Review: The Grown-Up Pixar Movie of Brad Bird's Dreams
Director Brad Bird has spent nearly his entire career begging American moviegoers to understand: Not all animated movies are for kids. "It is NOT a genre," he said in 2004, repeating himself, "it is an art form that can do ANY genre." And for almost as long as he's been dreaming of a Hollywood that catches up to Japan, France, and the rest of the world's appreciation for animated art, he's been working on Ray Gunn, a retrofuturist murder mystery he scripted before directing his debut feature, 1999's The Iron Giant.
Hunting for New Games? Polygon’s Wishlister Wants To Help
Ask a game developer, or even a dedicated player, about the biggest challenges of the video game industry and you’re sure to hear one word: “discoverability.” With so many new games releasing every day, it’s harder than ever to break through and get your game seen.
There Has Never Been a Better Time To Get Into Star Wars
Despite growing up as both a cinephile and a sci-fi nerd, I somehow never caught the Star Wars bug. Sure, I got swept up in the cultural moment of The Phantom Menace like any other kid at the time, but I had no desire whatsoever to see Attack of the Clones just three years later. For me, Star Wars has been little more than a pretty fun trilogy of blockbusters set in an impressively large universe that I just don’t understand.
Halo officially returns in 2 weeks with new release
Bungie's bestselling military science fiction FPS, Halo, has spawned an impressive amount of content over the years since Halo: Combat Evolved was released for the Xbox in 2001. Debuting alongside Halo was the franchise's first tie-in novel, The Fall of the Reach, by Eric Nylund. Since then, there have been more than 30 novels written by a host of authors set in the wildly popular Halo universe.
Persona’s Horrifying Dong Monster Will Haunt My Nightmares Forever
Atlus’s Persona series of role-playing games incorporates a huge variety of mythological and folkloric creatures from around the world. Some are formidable warriors like Odin from Norse mythology or the Hindu goddess Lakshmi. Others are cute and charming, like Alice from Alice in Wonderland or the spooky snowman Jack Frost. They function kind of like Pokémon: your protagonist can equip a variety of Personas with different skills, strengths, and weaknesses. But there’s one Persona that’s not like the others.
Avatar: Seven Havens’s Biggest Plot Twist May Be Hiding in Plain Sight
Avatar: Seven Havensis a far more mystery-driven series than its predecessors, The Legend of Korraand Avatar: The Last Airbender.Avatar Korra supposedly caused a cataclysm that destroyed most of the world, but it’s unclear why she would do that and how the new Avatar might be able to fix things. The first episode of Seven Havens premiered on Oct. 9, and the writers may have already provided some big hints about what’s going on.
5 Brilliant Anime That Don’t Waste a Single Episode
Subjective taste inevitably plays a role here. A contemplative series like Mushi-shi and a sprawling space opera like Legend of the Galactic Heroes offer radically different versions of great storytelling. For this list, we’re focusing on anime that combine distinctive animation with narrative ambition, embrace complicated characters, and avoid wasting their limited time. These five anime prove that when every episode matters, even a short series can feel monumental.
5 Sci-Fi Books That Are Better Than Their Movie Adaptations
In some cases, a sci-fi movie adaptation can be spectacular, and still feel like a pale imitation of the source material. This has less to do with the quality of the adaptation itself, and more with the nuances that can only be conveyed through the literary medium. Sci-fi stories get streamlined and condensed onscreen for valid reasons, but the original still shines brighter in some respects. Here are five such examples where you're better off going straight to the source material than watching the movie it inspired.
Pokémon Go Zorua Community Day event guide

Now, the first full trailer for the supernatural thriller movie is officially out, and it promises a good time for fans of the original as well as those jumping into the franchise for the first time.
Pokémon Winds and Waves’ Water Starter Breaks a Series Curse
Every starter in a new Pokémon generation erects an army of staunch defenders, but like it or not, some monsters are loved more than others. And for a couple of decades now, it seems like fire-type starters and grass-type starters keep taking turns stealing the spotlight. But when was the last time a water-type starter turned the collective Pokémon fandom's head?
MTG Officially Reveals 4 Epic New Marvel Commander Decks Coming in 2027
Magic: The Gatheringplayers have repeatedly complained that Universes Beyond sets feel too far removed from the game’s fantasy genre and original storytelling. Wizards of the Coast revealed a clever compromise at New York Comic Con: a set based on an original story in the Marvel Universe that was specifically written to fit Magic’s mechanics and vibe.
'Common Side Effects' Officially Break Their Silence on Season 2 Plans
The Adult Swim series was also a redemption of sorts for co-creator Joe Bennett, after his previous project, Scavengers Reign, was canceled by HBO Max, offloaded to Netflix, and then shelved again. So it comes as a relief that Bennett's Common Side Effects, which he co-created with Steve Hely (Veep), is getting a second season.
5 Hilarious ‘Calvin and Hobbes’ Comic Strips About Hating School
Calvin and Hobbes took a different approach. What set Calvin apart from most of his funny-pages peers, with the exceptions of Huey and Riley Freeman, was that school might've been the most uncomplicated villain in C&H canon. At best, Calvin spent his school time wrestling with boredom; at worst, he felt like academia as an institution was actively out to get him, and would occasionally fantasize about its destruction.
Square Enix’s Forgotten Loot-Shooter Was Years Ahead of Its Time
Some of the most-discussed multiplayer shooter of 2026 share a lot in common. In both Arc Raiders and Marathon, you and up to two other players venture from a safe hub into hostile areas, shoot a bunch of enemies, grab a bunch of loot, and return back to safety. These games are built around a loop meant to draw players back repeatedly, and have become bona fide hits as a result. But these shooters owe a great debt to one maligned 2021 loot-shooter: Outriders.
Marathon Is the Scariest Horror Game of 2026
Ed. note: This story was originally published in March. We're republishing it today in celebration of Spooky Season.
GTA 6’s Nudity Sure Sounds Hopelessly Outdated
More GTA 6 leaks are spilling out, despite Rockstar's best efforts, and one of the bigger ones seems to be Jason's penis. Well, I haven't seen the video as it's been taken down, so I don't know how big that particular leak is. But the context around it all has me more than a little disappointed, if these reports are indeed representative of what will be in the full release. Sure, Jason and his partner-in-crime (and sometimes life) Lucia are hot.
Steven Spielberg’s 145-Minute 2026 Sci-fi Thriller Now Officially Streaming
Steven Spielberg has spent much of his career looking to the stars. From the wonder of Close Encounters of the Third Kind to the childhood adventure of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, few filmmakers have done more to shape the way Hollywood approaches stories about humanity making contact with something beyond our world. Even War of the Worlds, though it was an adaptation, offered a glimpse into Spielberg's fascination with extraterrestrial life.

Every Officially Confirmed Marvel Movie and TV Show Coming Through 2029
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has never been more unpredictable. After a handful of duds, including The Marvels, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Captain America: Brave New World, Marvel Studios is rethinking how it rolls out new movies and TV shows. While Marvel is riding high on the success of billion-dollar movies like Deadpool & Wolverine and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it's slowed its release pace considerably in recent years.

When is the point of no return in Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave's deadline for getting new characters on your side might loom ominously on the horizon, but the game is more flexible than it lets on. There are a few points of no return, but only one of them is irreversible: the one at the start of Act 3. The game doesn't outright tell you that there's no going back, though it does ask you to be quite sure you want to proceed before moving on. There's a good reason for that. The second deadline is inflexible, and there's no going back afterward.
Best gifts for each character in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave
Giving gifts in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is a fast, if not always easy, way to increase support levels with potential recruitable allies. Giving the right gift that aligns with the recipient's taste results in a hefty support boost roughly equivalent to inviting that character to a meal they love. However, figuring out what everyone likes isn't always easy, not when some list their likes as "looks of fear" or other such things you normally can't buy in stores.

‘Home to Roost’ quest walkthrough in Arc Raiders
The "Home to Roost" quest in Arc Raiders is one of the lengthier, more difficult ones you'll tackle following the 'Frozen Trails' update, but this one doesn't involve the new map, Pendola Pass, whatsoever. The action for "Home to Roost" takes place entirely on Blue Gate, where you must head to the back of the tunnels and dodge the pops, fireballs, shredders, and any other Arc enemies you may find down there.
Gears of War: E-Day Officially Debunks 20-Year-Old Fan Theory
Did you know that Gears of War isn’t set on Earth? That’s news to some players, who are starting to discover various eccentricities about the series as they dive into Gears of War: E-Day, the latest entry. The unique Gears setting in particular is the basis of a crockpot fan theory as old as the series itself: that heightened in-universe gravity is why every character is so comically jacked. But according to lead creatives on E-Day, there is no truth to that theory whatsoever.
Gears of War: E-Day’s Strong Reviews Haven’t Translated to Big Sales, Analyst Says
Gears of War: E-Day is off to a strong critical start, but early sales estimates suggest Microsoft's latest Xbox blockbuster may be struggling to turn that acclaim into actual sales.

Meanwhile, PlayStation sales have dropped 25% over the same period.
Street Fighter Movie Officially Reveals Its Big Animated Twist
The creators of the new Street Fightermovie have been sitting on a secret: A surprising amount of the film is told through traditional 2D animation, one of the film's many throwbacks to the '90s. Capcom and Legendary's new Street Fighter movie is a period piece, if that hasn't been clear from the trailers; it's set in 1993, the same year Capcom released Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers in arcades.

Last month, ShinyHunters got more brazen and hacked the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, stealing personal information of current and former FBI employees as well as people who had applied to work for the Bureau.

Gamers are eager to jump into Rockstar's latest open-world adventure on Nov. 19 — that is, if they own a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X. The only catch is that it must be done in one round.

Critical Role Just Gave a Controversial Answer to D&D’s Most Important Question
People sit around a table to play a game of Dungeons & Dragons to have fun. Heroic deeds, exciting adventures, and hilarious moments are all part of the experience — but so is death. The risk of player characters dying adds important stakes to a D&D story, but because it feels terrible to have your character die as a player, that makes it very difficult for Dungeon Masters to navigate that aspect of the game. The latest episode of Critical Role’s Campaign 4 proves this.
The Witcher 3 Remastered’s New Patch Adds Highly Requested Graphics Fix
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered hasn't been out for more than two weeks, and it's already received a handful of hotfixes and patches. Davies was not only successful, with the premiere episode “Rose” bringing in over 9 million views overnight, but he also went on to create some of the most iconic episodes in Doctor Who history.

‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ Theory: Korra’s “Cataclysm” Could Solve the New Show’s Biggest Mystery
The new Avatar: Seven Havens series picks up about 225 years later, in an era when Korra herself is treated like the boogeyman: a mythical villain from the past blamed for triggering the "Cataclysm" that destroyed the world. In this post-apocalyptic world, the remnants of humanity subsist in seven isolated Havens scattered across the wastelands, constantly ravaged by storms. Benders are becoming increasingly rare, and the spirits who flooded into the physical world during Korra’s lifetime are conspicuously absent.
24 Years Later, the Spy Thriller Series That Changed Hollywood Forever Is Streaming on Netflix
There is no shortage of great spy thrillers and action movies, from the larger-than-life spectacle of James Bond to the death-defying set pieces of Mission: Impossible. Both franchises have spent decades perfecting their own flavors of espionage, featuring cool gadgets, exotic locations, elaborate schemes, and action sequences that get more ridiculous with every new installment.
Avatar: Seven Havens Is a Near-Perfect Followup to a Fantasy Masterpiece
Avatar: Seven Havens joins a rich legacy of post-apocalyptic fantasy, where heroes of a fallen age must band together to face a rising threat. In The Lord of the Rings, The Wheel of Time, and The Stormlight Archive, the glorious past and the circumstances that led to ruin have been largely relegated to myth. Seven Havens takes a similar tack, but with a clever twist: Avatar fans already know what this world used to be like, but not how things got so bad.
CBS’s Sleeper Hit Sitcom of the Decade Is Officially Free on Streaming
Countless American adaptations of British TV classics have fallen woefully short of the source material. Either the dry British humor simply doesn’t translate well — which is why the U.S. version of Gavin & Stacey was far too cringe-worthy to enjoy — or it feels so similar there’s no real reason to adapt it in the first place.
Sydney Sweeney’s Extremely R-Rated 131-Minute Thriller Officially Finds a New Streaming Home
Despite its overwhelming commercial success, Freida McFadden’s psychological thriller, The Housemaid, is far from a perfect read. Trope-heavy and full of obvious contrivances, The Housemaid sets up a tense domestic thriller premise that is meant to be consumed as a fast-paced popcorn novel. This, however, sets the stage for a pulpy screen adaptation, one that mimics the conventions of a lurid thriller with some decent character writing to round things out.
After 4 Hours, Phantom Blade Zero Just Became My Most-Anticipated Action Game
Phantom Blade Zero looks to carve out its own space among sword-slashing action games. It blends simple controls and intense parries with stylish wuxia animations to create one of the most anticipated non-GTA 6 games of the fall release calendar. I recently got to play around four hours of Phantom Blade Zero on Windows PC at a preview event hosted by developer S-Game in Beijing, China, and experienced the game’s unique take on melee action.
9 Legend of Zelda Side Quests Scarier than Any Horror Game
The Legend of Zelda has never been particularly shy about depicting curses, ghosts, and the walking dead (or ReDead). Its optional side quests are where Nintendo tends to let all three run wild. The series has always worked this way — usually giving you a bright, whimsical surface to explore with something rotten and/or horrifying tucked away, should you decide to look under that friendly surface. In the main story, that dread hides inside dungeons and boss fights.

‘Exploring Pendola Pass’ quest walkthrough in Arc Raiders
The"Exploring Pendola Pass" quest in Arc Raiders is intended to be one of the first you tackle in the 'Frozen Trail' update, as it essentially acts as a whistlestop tour of some of the map's most notable points of interest. Given to you by Celeste, you need to visit three specific locations, and destroy a whopping 20 Arc enemies while you're at it. It doesn't need to be completed in one round though, so you can chip away at this while you complete other quests, such as "Clean Hands" and "Sizing Things Up," if you like.
Magic’s Most Versatile Mechanic Comes to Disney Lorcana With a Clever Twist
Disney Lorcana is about to introduce its own version in the game’s fourth year. They’re functionally identical to Treasure tokens and can be generated in a variety of ways. Netflix’s Bioshock Movie Just Got an Exciting Update
Hollywood has been trying to make a film adaptation of 2007's BioShockfor almost as long as the game has been around. As you might be able to guess based on the absence of such a film, those efforts have not gone very well! Netflix is trying to change that, as it is the latest company to enter production on a BioShock movie. Updates on the project have been incredibly rare, but director Francis Lawrence just gave some insight into how the film is progressing.

The "Sizing Things Up" quest inArc Raiderswas added with the 'Frozen Trail' update, and it has you gallivanting all over the new Pendola Pass map. 'Marvel’s Wolverine' Sales Figure Proves There’s Still a Huge Market for Discs
When Sony announced it would stop producing physical discs for its newly released games starting in 2028, the company kicked a hornet’s nest, sparking online anger as fans of physical media flooded its social media channels with criticism. While some argued that this pivot makes some amount of business sense given the growing ubiquity of digital games, PlayStation sales data from September tells a different story.
All sprites in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4
Sprites are back again in FortniteChapter 7 Season 4, though they're sporting a pixel-y gamer look to coincide with the "Override" season. John Cena Officially Comments on the Future of Peacemaker
Given how bleak the start of Peacemaker season 2 looked, with Chris Smith, aka Peacemaker (John Cena), doubting his place in his friends' lives, the season 2 finale's fairly happy ending seemed suspicious from the start. Then Rick Flag Sr. kidnapped Chris and dropped him on an alien prison planet meant for metahumans like him, leaving fans with a massive cliffhanger. That was more like it.

A Star Wars Icon Defects to Star Trek for a New Deep Space Nine Thriller
Next to George Lucas, Timothy Zahn may be one of the most important names in Star Wars. The author wrote the Thrawntrilogy of novels in the 1990s, which is largely credited for reviving public interest in the sci-fi series and defining much of the franchise's expanded universe. Even today, much of what Zahn created has made its way into the current Star Wars canon. This makes it that much more surprising that Zahn is jumping ship to work on Star Trek.

Castlevania Meets Groundhog Day In a Must-Play New Game Pass Hit
You’ll soon learn that the hero is the rarest of creations: a weaver, and the presumed last of their kind. Few humans remain alive in the wake of a horrific event. The only people who might survive to engineer civilization’s rebirth won’t live long enough to do so unless you help the weaver change the course of events already set in motion. But that will take some doing.

All rewards available in the Arc Raiders Frozen Trail pass
The Arc Raiders"Frozen Trail" reward pass is the first time the extraction shooter has offered a paid battle pass to players, and it's full of interesting items. Everything in the premium tier is exclusively cosmetic, so there are no pay-to-win elements here. However, you can grab some very exciting things in the free tier, like a grappling hook blueprint, stencil parts, and even an emperor gateway conduit if you complete the whole thing.
‘Clean Hands’ quest walkthrough in Arc Raiders
The "Clean Hands" Arc Raiders quest was added with the "Frozen Trail" update, and it involves finding a nomad camp under the Railyard location on Pendola Pass, then finding a polluted item and taking it to a church in Old Town. This is a brand-new map, however, so finding these locations is not an easy task.

The release of Star Wars Zero Company followed an all-too-familiar pattern. This strategy game earned widespread praise, but most of the people who made it still lost their jobs. A few days after launch, a report indicated that 80% of Bit Reactor's employees had been furloughed by the studio.

Sega and Two Point Studios made Two Point Museum's newest DLC, Rides and Relics, free to start last week for anyone who owns the base game ahead of the expansion's full launch on Oct. 8. Normally, a campaign's first stage eases you into that museum's peculiarities and keeps the big stuff for later. The Arty Facts DLC's first stage, for example, teaches you the basics of creating and displaying paintings without even getting into live performance, emotions, auctions, and training models.

Critical Role Campaign 4’s Most Surreal Moment Was Inspired by a 400-Year-Old Story
The beauty of having many creative minds work together on an actual-play Dungeons & Dragons campaign like Critical Role is that you're practically guaranteed to get a wealth of inspiration. For example, Taliesin Jaffe drew inspiration for his character in Campaign 4 from Grog's magical swords, while Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan took ideas for the world of Aramán from the iconic TV show, The Wire.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer Continues a 55-Year-Old Gaming Tradition
For the past few weeks, I’ve been playing Star Wars: Galactic Racer pretty much nonstop. The arcade racing game, spearheaded by former Burnout developers, makes great use of the Star Wars universe to create a thrilling game filled with high stakes and even higher speeds. It’s not exactly breaking new ground in terms of its racing, mind you, but there is something innovative hidden beneath its spectacular crashes: its roguelite single-player campaign, a modern twist that nevertheless feels rooted in arcade history.
Minecraft's Switch 2 Upgrade Is Free, but Only for Digital Owners
Minecraft fans are in for a treat this October, as it will finally receive a Switch 2 upgrade. Microsoft sold millions of copies of Minecraft on the original Switch. Some of these players will receive free access to the Switch 2 edition, but thousands more are considered ineligible and will have to purchase it separately.
Call of Cthulhu Officially Changes the Name of a Lovecraftian God
For decades, the Cthulhu Mythos has been a prolific source of inspiration for creatives. Originating in the works of H.P. Lovecraft, this cosmology populates the universe with terrifying entities that, most of the time, lie in wait beyond the threshold of human perception. While Cthulhu is surely the most famous, Lovecraft and the writers who followed in the genre described as "Lovecraftian horror" have created a veritable pantheon of unfathomable, godlike beings. However, not even a Great Old One is immune to the changing of times.
Stephen King’s Forgotten 576-Page Detective Thriller Is Secretly His Scariest Vampire Novel
Lurid and propulsive, the writer's 576-page novel is an ode to mystery procedurals; to boot, a King favorite, author Harlan Coben, actually pops up and plays a significant role in the story. I haven't read enough Coben to know how much King is playfully ripping off his contemporary, but the legacy of a genre pumping through the veins of The Outsider. In the beginning.
Netflix Is About to Lose The Most Inventive Sci-Fi Thriller of the Decade
A Quiet Place never needed a sequel.
Beloved Action-RPG Muramasa: The Demon Blade Returns in 2027 With Stunning Remake
Having played Muramasa: Revenant Blades for an hour at a Tokyo Game Show event last month, the rerelease quickly shot up my list of most anticipated games, thanks to its mix of fast-paced action, depth in fighting styles, and (of course) gorgeous artwork. (As is often the case with Vanillaware games, the in-game food looks incredibly mouth-watering.)
Ahead of Your Halloween Rewatch, Ranking All 7 Seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer
You win some, you lose some. Buffy: New Sunnydale, Hulu's continuation of the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer with Chloé Zhao and original star Sarah Michelle Gellar attached, was officially not moving forward as of March.

Carrie’s fate takes a shocking turn! Who really caused the chaos?
New Walmart Promo Is the Safest Way to Buy Pokémon 30th Anniversary TCG On Release
It's been a few weeks since the initial release of the Pokémon30th anniversary Trading Card Game set, and fans are hungry to score a restock. While some were lucky enough to have Booster Box pre-orders at retailers like The Pokémon Center or Target, just as many — if not more — haven't managed to secure any products at all. Thanks to a new Walmart initiative that goes live on Wednesday evening, fans now have a great option for buying the 30th anniversary set without lining up outside a store or badgering poor retail employees.
What time does Marvel Rivals Season 10.5 release in your time zone?
Marvel Rivals' Season 10.5 release time is creeping up fast, as NetEase prepares to ditch tradition in favor of something rather different. There's no new hero this mid-season — Gorr's all you get for the whole of Season 10 — but there is a massive new game mode. 'Tis the season for a bunch of Halloween specials, too, including new skins.
Star Wars Officially Brings Back Ezra and Thrawn for New 2027 Release
While Ezra Bridger was a major part of Ahsoka season 1, he didn't actually appear that much until the season's end. Ahead of the Disney Plus show's second season, the unknown adventures of Ezra will finally be revealed in a new Star Wars story coming next year. Ezra won't be alone, however, as iconic antagonist Grand Admiral Thrawn is also back for more.

This might be a first: Dispatch, the episodic superhero narrative game, is eligible for all the major categories at The Game Awards for the second year running.
12 Years Later, Canceled Kojima Game ‘P.T.’ Makes A Comeback
Before Xbox snapped up the rights to Hideo Kojima's upcoming horror game, the video game auteur shook up the world with a playable teaser back in 2014. Aptly named P.T., the experience was a short yet pivotal one that defined Hideo Kojima's game development career after his rocky departure from Konami. Despite its importance, there's officially no way to play P.T. anymore. The horror game was pulled from the PlayStation Store in 2015.
2026’s Dark Horse GOTY Contender Delayed, Now a 2027 Frontrunner
With 2026 nearing its end, there's no better time to start thinking about end-of-year awards. We expect some unreleased games, like Grand Theft Auto 6, to be in contention come awards season, but there are other undated games we've had our eyes on too. One is At Fate's End, the next game from Spiritfarer studio Thunder Lotus Games. It immediately caught our eye when it was revealed last summer with a 2026 launch window, and plenty of us have been eagerly anticipating its release since.
Disney Plus Set as Official Streaming Home of Super Bowl 2027
The Mouse is expanding its territory. Disney and ESPN announced today that they will partner with the NFL to stream Super Bowl LXI on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2027. Thankfully, this isn’t an exclusivity deal, and the big game will also be available on Disney-owned ESPN and ABC as part of this first-ever ESPN-produced Super Bowl. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman will commentate the broadcast with Liza Salters and Laura Rutledge as sideline reporters.
Marvel’s Unusual VisionQuest Release Schedule Officially Revealed
Before Marvel returns to the big screen this December withAvengers: Doomsday, the company is coming back to the small screen this month. VisionQuest, the pseudo-sequel to 2021's WandaVision and 2024's Agatha All Along, is set to premiere on Oct. 14. The limited series will be eight episodes, and we've just learned the full release schedule.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer Has the Best Racing Multiplayer in Years
What was perhaps less understood ahead of release was that Fuse was set on extending some of this thinking into multiplayer, too. During the review phase, I booted up multiplayer with the dim expectation that it would be a standard affair that defanged Galactic Racer's design and blunted its originality in pursuit of a strictly level playing field. I was wrong. After further testing on live servers, I'm ready to call this the best multiplayer racing mode in years. I expect it will be quite influential.
Dark Souls meets John Wick in new action game for PS5 and Steam
Announced at the PlayStation State of Play in August, Beijing-based studio S-Game's new action RPG,Phantom Blade Zero, an installment of the Rainblood/Phantom Blade game series, is launching on PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, and Steam on October 29. The studio describes the game as inspired by a mix of wuxia (a popular genre dedicated to martial arts heroes, typically set in ancient China), fantasy, and folk horror, and has even coined the fun new term "kungfupunk" for it.
5 Key New GTA 6 Details Just Unveiled By Rockstar Games
With a game as large as Grand Theft Auto 6, new previews are bound to touch on details fans haven't heard about yet. If fans believe they know about these ideas, they may come to find that GTA 6's gameplay is actually more complex than they originally thought. With only a few weeks before release, Rockstar Games is dishing out more of the game's tantalizing features.
HBO’s Lanterns Just Revealed a Major Finale Detail
By the end of HBO's Lanterns, fans didn't get to see John Stewart wield the full might of his new power ring. We didn't even get to see him suit up like Hal Jordan did. Those are both events fans will likely have to wait to see in James Gunn's Man of Tomorrow, which is confirmed to include Aaron Pierre returning as Earth's unofficial Green Lantern.
Arc Raiders’ Frozen Trail Update Basically Turns Players Into Spider-Man
Arc Raiders' biggest ever update, Frozen Trail, is right around the corner, and last week, I went hands-on with it for a few hours. There's a lot to be excited about, from the raid-inspired Emperor slumped into the mountainside and the airborne Frigate, to new enemies, weapons, gadgets, and a whole new snowy map to explore. But one thing stood out: the grappling hook.
What time does the Arc Raiders Frozen Trail update release in your time zone?
The Arc Raiders"Frozen Trail" release time is less than 24 hours away. This is the extraction shooter's biggest update ever, and it's bringing a plethora of new content, including a whole new map, two endgame raid-style encounters, a new weapon amplification system, three new Arc enemies, and more. Arc Raiders is in dire need of a content injection to help it get back to where it once was in terms of popularity and player count, and "Frozen Trail" could be the answer.
The Lord of the Rings D&D Books Smash Crowdfunding Record
Free League Publishing raised $1.7 million on Kickstarter in 2021 to fund the second edition of The One Ring, a tabletop role-playing game based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. Free League publishes the tabletop adaptations of Alien, Blade Runner, and Invincible, but its latest The One Ring crowdfunding project has surpassed all their records, raising $2.6 million to fund revised rules, a new bestiary, and a campaign book.
Resident Evil Requiem Writer Officially Teases First DLC Details
Capcom has already confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem will eventually get story DLC, but not much information has been shared officially beyond that. Well, a writer on the project just casually dropped some major details about what fans will see in the eventual expansion. It seems like the base game's focus on series antagonist Oswell Spencer will continue — which may also tell us a lot about an eventual Resident Evil 5 remake.
PlayStation Bringing Back Ape Escape With Ex-Sonic Devs, Report Says
After more than 15 years, it seems that more Ape Escape may finally be on the way. According to VGC and former Giant Bomb journalist Jeff Gerstmann, developer Evening Star is working on a revival of Ape Escape for Sony Interactive Entertainment. Sonic Mania's lead designer, Christian Whitehead, founded Evening Star in 2018. The studio later launched its 3D platformer Penny’s Big Breakaway in 2024.
Annapurna’s New Game Is the Most Annapurna Game of All Time
No one knows that better than Alfred, the star of Forever Ago, a new narrative adventure game published by Annapurna Interactive. The aging grouch at the center of developer Third Shift’s long-delayed debut has already lived a long life full of foiled plans by the time we join him on a grief-stricken road trip. Flashbacks between pit stops paint a picture of a man who has experienced both extremes of the fate spectrum, in a long life rerouted by unexpected rainstorms and engine failures alike.
’500-hour’ Order of the Sinking Star Is As Complex and Exhausting As It Sounds
Usually, that kind of setup would precede a bit of praise for an ambitious game with a tremendous amount of value for any players who think about games in dollars and cents. Truth be told, I don’t know if I mean it as a compliment — but it’s also not not a compliment. More than 20 hours of on-and-off play, casually poking into my save file every night like I would a book of crossword puzzles, has revealed an exceptionally complicated game that eludes firm criticism at every turn. Is it a masterpiece or an exercise in exhaustion?
Disney’s Legendary 218-Episode Sci-Fi Series Is the Perfect Anti-‘Lanterns’ Binge
Lanterns has concluded. Hal Jordan’s killer was revealed, and I’ll refrain from telling you who gets the ring in the end, just in case you haven’t caught up to the finale yet. But once you’re all done with the HBO Max show, you might need something that’s a bit of a change of pace. Fortunately, I know just the series to dive into next, and it was a massive sci-fi hit back in the 1990s.
Until Dawn Creators Work with Netflix to Launch Interactive Horror Game Based on The Conjuring
Spooky season is off to a good start, as Netflix releases a new interactive game set in the universe of The Conjuring, a popular series of horror movies. The Conjuring: Unspoken, developed by interactive horror experts Supermassive Games, becomes available Oct. 13 — making it this year's perfect Halloween activity.
Doctor Who Reveals First Candidate to Resurrect the Beloved Sci-Fi Show
Even before the BBC opened submissions for plead for creators to lift Doctor Who's weary, bedraggled body from its miserable end and give it new life with fresh ideas, people worldwide were eager to take on the task. Hollywood screenwriter Dean Devlin, known for Independence Day and Stargate, publicly threw his hat in the ring with his studio, Electric Company, to bring David Tennant back and relaunch the show into a new era.
6 Years Later, Netflix’s Chilling Sleeper Hit Series Is About to Disappear From Streaming
Few things in television possess the intoxicating gravity of a masterfully crafted mystery series. The Killing expands a single tragedy into a sprawling multiple-season-long portrait of grief and political corruption, while Mare of Easttown scrapes back the veneer of a small-town homicide to expose the generational wounds festering beneath. Such greats as The Outsider and, more recently, Lanterns subvert the genre entirely by anchoring their investigations in procedural grit before letting supernatural elements bleed into the frame.
I read every Halo novel and became the Master Chief of loneliness | Unraveled
Halo Infinite is coming out... Halo Infinite is already here. On July 30, 2019, Brian David Gilbert set out to read every single Halo novel. He has finally unraveled all of them, but it’s come at a price: No one wants to talk to him about Halo anymore. #haloinfinite #halo #unraveled
25 Years Ago, One Iconic Sci-Fi Shooter Perfected Video Game Horror
I recently blazed through the first half of Halo: Campaign Evolved in a couple of days, fully prepared to relive a traumatic part of my childhood. Despite some modest gameplay upgrades and a complete visual overhaul, it largely still feels like the same game as 2001’s Halo: Combat Evolved. Lines of dialogue that have echoed in my head for decades sent shivers of nostalgia down my spine, and the opening missions remain propulsive enough to make stopping genuinely difficult.
Xbox Official Clears Up Grand Theft Auto 6 PC Rumors
Recent reports claimed that Xbox would receive streaming rights to Grand Theft Auto 6, giving its platforms a major advantage for this huge release. However, Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball debunked the claim, confirming that GTA 6 will not be an Xbox streaming exclusive or available to stream on PC.
29 Years Ago, ’Buffy’s Worst Episode Ever Paved the Way for TV Greatness
Part of why the streaming model of TV is flawed is that so many shows get canceled after just one short season. If that had always been the policy, we wouldn't have gotten most of the classics of television, as every show usually needs at least a few episodes to work out its early kinks. This process is sometimes referred to as "growing the beard," a reference to Star Trek: The Next Generation, which only got good once William Riker (Jonathan Frakes) stopped showing up to work clean-shaven. (That was probably a coincidence.)
7 Hilarious Far Side Comics About Music
Much of Gary Larson’s comic stripThe Far Side is truly timeless. With subject matter like cows, cavemen, and dinosaurs, a lot of his work feels as fresh today as it was back in the 1980s and 1990s, when the comic was being published in newspapers all over the world. But not all of The Far Side is timeless. Occasionally, Larson would poke fun at something that was more relevant to the period he was creating them in, which is particularly true of his comic strips based on music.

From artificial bodies and synthetic memories to virtual realities and omnipresent surveillance, the greatest cyberpunk stories use technology to interrogate class, capitalism, identity, autonomy, and even what it means to be human. 10 Essential GBA Games Still Missing From Switch Online
When the original Game Boy came out, games like the ones people enjoyed on their NES were finally playable on the go, and players loved Nintendo for it. The green and black color palette was a bit of a bummer, but finally was rectified with the Game Boy Color. Even so, most of the games were still pretty basic. The next step was to make a handheld unit that could replicate the superior experience offered on the Super Nintendo, and the Game Boy Advance did precisely that.

8 Most Unhinged Dark Urge Lines in BG3
The Dark Urge — an origin character afflicted with amnesia and the most intense bloodlust of all time — has some extremely memorable dialogue in Baldur’s Gate 3. Sometimes, that voice belongs to the character (often referred to as, simply, “Durge”). Sometimes that voice belongs to the game’s narrator, Amelia Tyler, speaking as The Dark Urge’s inner monologue.
5 Sci-Fi Series To Watch If You Love Lanterns
Lanternsrecently came to an end, and it more than delivered when it comes to being both a great comic book series and a great piece of television. Not only did the series thrive thanks to the dynamic between Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), but it also managed to revitalize interest in the Green Lantern franchise following the less-than-stellar Green Lantern movie from 2011. That's a superhuman feat in and of itself, and Lanterns creators Damon Lindelof, Chris Mundy and Tom King deserve credit for pulling that off.

11 Most Essential White Cards Every Magic: The Gathering Player Should Know
White has always been one of the easiest colors in Magic: The Gathering to misunderstand. On the surface, it’s deceptively simple: armies of little creatures, life gain, exile-based removal, and an unhealthy obsession with justice and righteousness. Beneath that veneer of honor and unwavering faith lies a much darker undercurrent of zealotry and dogmatism.

HBO’s Lanterns has ended, bringing an exceptionally grounded, True Detective-inspired noir edge to the DC Universe’s sprawling mythology. Multi-Stage Boss Fights Are the Worst Video Game Mechanic of All Time
Boss fights have existed for almost as long as video games have. They serve various purposes: defeating them may be required for story progression, or perhaps they're optional, guarding rare loot. As far as debuts go, Fuse Games, a Guildford-based studio made up of a gamut of developers from Electronic Arts and Criterion Games, could have done way worse than start with a Star Wars game. It’s not just any ol’ Star Wars game, but one set in a genre that Lucasfilm Games barely touched on since Star Wars Episode I: Racer in 1999.
Magic Is Planning Another Kpop Demon Hunters Collab After Secret Lair Drop
Sony Animation’s 2025 film KPop Demon Huntersbecame a cultural phenomenon, breaking all of Netflix’s records for original programming. The story of K-pop group Huntr/x using their music to protect the world from demons was such a surprising cultural phenomenon that companies had to rush to develop tie-ins like Lego sets and McDonald's meals, which started rolling out in 2026.
GTA 6 Shows ‘What the American Dream Looks Like Now’ in a Game Without Background Characters
From what we've seen so far about Grand Theft Auto 6, it looks like one of the biggest open-world games in history. When developers have to create such sprawling virtual environments, there's a risk of them feeling empty or repetitive, but that doesn't seem to be the case with GTA 6. In a recent interview with Love Magazine, whose bits and screenshots have been shared by fans online, Rockstar revealed interesting details about the effort behind creating such a realistic world, with many stories and highly detailed characters.
31 Years Later, One of the Most Disturbing Thrillers Ever Made Is Officially Free on Streaming
Released in 1995, Ice Cream Man is the type of so-bad-it's-good horror movie that rarely gets made in the post-Get Out era where the genre is taken much more seriously. Directed by pornographer Paul Norman, who hoped this was his pivot to kid-friendly horror flicks, Ice Cream Man is a movie where a deranged killer mixes up bugs, human remains, and ice cream and feeds it to children.
Prime Video’s Reacher Is Officially Returning This Month After a Stellar Season 4
If there’s one thing Reacher fans can count on, it’s that Jack Reacher is never gone for very long. The Prime Video series has turned Lee Child’s wandering ex-military cop into one of TV’s most reliably entertaining action heroes. With season 4 now finished and a new spin-off in full swing, it’d be easy to assume a long wait for the next Reacher adventure.
Stephen Colbert’s Lord of the Rings Movie Still in Development after Paramount-Warner Bros. Merger
On Oct. 4, rumors emerged that Stephen Colbert's Lord of the Rings project, which the TV host revealed in March 2026, was "paused" as a consequence of the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger. The story was reported by Knight Edge Media, but it seems that Lord of the Rings fans can rest easy.
21 Years Ago, a Brilliant Sci-Fi Series Changed TV Forever With One Last-Minute Change
Every mystery box has the same inherent problem: Eventually, you have to open it. The questions that keep an audience obsessing over a TV show from week to week can lose their power the moment we finally get some answers. Explain too little, and viewers feel frustrated. Explain too much, and you run the risk of deflating the entire story. There’s always the third option, however, which is to answer questions with details that generate even more questions. Instead of a mystery box, why not make it a nesting doll of secrets?
5 Crucial Changes ‘Legend of Vox Machina’ Season 4 Made to Critical Role Campaign 1
Critical Role has never been afraid to change the events of their popular live-play Dungeons & Dragons show while adapting it for TV. That was already obvious after the first three seasons of their animated series, The Legend of Vox Machina, and it's only become more true with season 4, which aired on Prime Video earlier this year. (Don't worry, season 5 is already confirmed.)
65 Years Ago, the Most Terrifying Episode of ‘The Twilight Zone’ Broke All Its Own Rules
The Twilight Zone is very much a product of its time. While the celebrated anthology series continues to be deeply influential in the areas of science fiction and horror, that doesn’t change the fact that it aired from 1959 until 1965 and that, in many respects, the show is dated by today's standards, especially when it comes to creature effects and production design that were groundbreaking at the time.
25 Years Later, One of the Greatest Crime Thrillers Ever Made Is Free on Streaming
Cinema is full of high-stakes character dualities. Heatpits a veteran bank robber, McCauley (Robert De Niro), against a ruthless detective named Hanna (Al Pacino) in a cat-and-mouse game set across Los Angeles, while Michael Mann’s later Collateral forces an ordinary cabbie (Jamie Foxx) to confront a professional killer (Tom Cruise) in the same guise. Katherine Bigelow’s Point Break tempts a young lawman (Keanu Reeves) with the criminal underworld he’s sent to infiltrate through the suave surfer Bodhi (Patrick Swayze).
Zelda: Ocarina of Time's Link and Epona Get Official New Lego Set
Lego and Nintendo will mark the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda with a new set timed to the return of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. In 2027, Link and Epona will be memorialized with a new Lego set that captures the Hero of Time and his trusty steed in brick form.
10 Near-Perfect Nintendo Switch Games Nobody Played
When a system has a library as diverse as the Nintendo Switch, some great games are bound to go unrecognized. There are thousands of physical titles available, and thousands more that never got more than a simple digital release. Not every game is for everyone, though. Many players choose to ignore the digital marketplace altogether because it has become so cluttered. We sometimes overlook even physical releases, now that there are so many of them.
‘Lanterns’ Ending Explained: How the Finale Sets Up John Stewart in ‘Man of Tomorrow’
The first episode of HBO’s Lanternsset up two big mysteries: What are extraterrestrials doing in Rushville, Nebraska, and who killed Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler)? The season finale at long last reveals the truth about Hal’s death — along with more of Rushville’s secrets. “Dirt and Stars” also sets up a new conflict with big implications for the future of the DC Universe. If you still have questions after watching, here’s what’s going on.
HBO Officially Changes a Fundamental Rule of Green Lantern Canon
In HBO’s Lanterns, John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) spends his whole life preparing to become a Green Lantern. He seemingly abandons his destiny in episode 5, turning down the ring after becoming disillusioned with how the Guardians of the Universe treated the Manhunters and Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler). John gets another chance to become a superhero in the season finale, but that power comes with a huge drawback tied to one of DC Comics’ greatest villains.
10 Essential Sega Genesis Games Still Missing From Nintendo Switch Online
Players who subscribe to Switch Online know that it comes with a wide variety of retro games from past Nintendo consoles such as the NES and SNES. If they opt to spend more for the Expansion Pass, they get access to games that appeared on additional hardware, including the Sega Genesis. But that hardware library was extensive, and only some of its best games are available on Nintendo’s service. Here are 10 essential Genesis games still missing from Switch Online, which we hope will make an appearance there soon.
Fire Emblem Fans Need to Play 2017’s Stellar Revenge-Saga RPG
Those still playing Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave—which, given the latest entry’s heft, is most of us—know choosing a first route matters. Cai seems the intended starting point, with opening chapters full of explanations. Hedonic Dietrich is ideal for Three Houses fans seeking more Fódlan lore; Theodora offers insight into the cultures of Dagda and Saramis; and Leda is driven by vengeance after her father’s death.
Pokémon’s Official Halloween Collection is Live and Full of Incredible Merch
It's officially Spooky Season and the Pokémon Center is meeting the moment with a new Halloween Collection for 2026. Pokémon fans looking for something to replace their 12-foot Home Depot skeleton have plenty of adorable (and spooky) options.
8 Video Game Villains With Motives You Can’t Argue With
Grab your gavel: Court is in session for eight of gaming’s most misunderstood villains. Their charges? One occupied planet, one erased painting, one underwater utopia gone to rot, and a truly staggering body count. But, all that aside, what if these bad guys were actually making a somewhat decent point? Read between the lines of their melodramatic monologues, and perhaps you’ll realize that, say, a centuries-long guilt trip over one catastrophic mistake was in fact understandable rationale for wanting to tear the world down and start over.
25 Years Later, Ridley Scott’s Most Controversial Thriller Is Officially Free on Youtube
We’ve all said it at least once: “The book was better.” Maybe it explored the characters with more depth, or it paced the plot better than the adaptation. Sometimes it doesn’t even come down to mechanical know-how or structure. Sometimes, the book just makes you feel more.
Nintendo’s Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Gets Official Instrument Support and More
Nintendo's remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is coming soon, giving Link and Zelda's classic Nintendo 64 adventure a dramatic new look and quality of life features. The Zelda remake is also getting two big additions that will expand the gameplay experience, and they both exist outside the title itself.
Forget Star Wars Movies, the Franchise’s Future Belongs to Video Games
Word broke this week that Lucasfilm was reportedly ramping up for Star Wars - Episode X, a direct continuation of the mainline “Skywalker Saga” and the Rey storyline. Simon Kinberg, who worked closely with Lucasfilm in the early days of Episode VII, developed Star Wars Rebels with Dave Filoni, and also wrote several Fox X-Men movies before directing Dark Phoenix, will pen the screenplay. Jon Watts, maker of three Spider-Man movies and the so-so Star Wars TV series Skeleton Crew, will direct. Get excited?
‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Would Be Much Better if It Were 2 Seasons Shorter
It's difficult to overstate the influence of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The TV show (1997-2003) was never a ratings giant, but it was a hit with critics and quickly developed a fanatical fan following. We can credit and/or blame Buffy for TV Tropes, some significant fraction of urban fantasy as a genre, a surprising amount of modern media-discussion slang (i.e. "big bad"), and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If you were going to build a Mount Rushmore for Western pop culture, Buffy Summers is on the short list.
Tom Cruise Just Experienced His Worst Opening Weekend In Nearly 20 Years
For the past twenty years, Tom Cruise has typically done very well at the box office, with 2022's Top Gun: Maverick being a particular highlight. The movie star's latest film, Digger, did not do nearly as well during its first weekend in theaters, marking the lowest opening weekend for a Cruise movie since 2007's Lions for Lambs.
Link And GTA 6’s Jason Get Into A Heated Debate In Hilarious SNL Bit
Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the most anticipated releases of the decade. Many video game publishers have avoided releasing games too close to its Nov. 19 launch date — not Nintendo, though. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake releases only two weeks before GTA 6. Saturday Night Live saw this as an opportunity to create a Weekend Update segment where the protagonists of both games have a hilariously immature debate as each character analyzes the other's flaws.
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave true ending, explained
[Ed. note: Spoilers follow for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave.]
Man of Tomorrow Passed An Important Post-Production Milestone
Man of Tomorrow's post-production process still appears on track despite all the behind-the-scenes changes at Warner Bros. caused by the merger with Paramount. In fact, director James Gunn recently shared that Man of Tomorrow had passed an important post-production editing milestone.
Ghost of Yotei DLC’s Best Boss Fight Stars Giant Murder Bears
Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara, the new DLC for Sucker Punch’s popular 2025 samurai game, is out now, sending players to a new region, the Ashoro Foothills. It does well in adding new and much-needed layers to Atsu, but in between all that character work is more of the open-world exploration that Ghost of Yōtei nails. You’ve got fox dens to discover, hot springs to dip into, and new areas full of enemies to clear out. But the best addition is a couple of giant bears who can pack quite the punch.
A Beloved Critical Role Cast Member Will Officially Miss Campaign 4 for a Long Time
From the moment Critical Role introduced Campaign 4 and its 13-player cast, one thing was clear: Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan wasn't pulling any punches. This became even more obvious during a pivotal moment in Campaign 4's 30th episode, "Here in the Dark."
Avengers: Doomsday Poster Highlights One Of The Film’s Biggest Mysteries
A new poster for Avengers: Doomsday was unveiled at Comic-Con Málaga on Oct. 3. Although it reveals nothing new about the film, it spotlights three characters we still don't know much about. Right in time for Halloween, this poster has me wondering who the Latverian Witches really are.
61 Years Ago, Star Trek’s Greatest Failure Changed the Franchise Forever
Before Captain Kirk ever sat in the Enterprise’s center seat, Gene Roddenberry tried to launch his strange new science-fiction series with “The Cage,” a pilot starring Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Christopher Pike. NBC rejected it in 1965. Among the network’s concerns was that the episode was “too cerebral,” which is a pretty funny criticism considering Star Trek would eventually build an entire franchise around making people think.
Xbox Finally Had a Good Week
This week, perhaps in an attempt to wrest control of the narrative (from itself), Xbox fielded CEO Asha Sharma for a New York Times profile. But the unfortunate takeaway from that interview was that Sharma was forced to deny that the platform-holder was for sale. Good to know, but unfortunate that she has to say it.
10 Perfect Hard Sci-Fi Books That I Knew Would Be Masterpieces From the First 10 Pages
Hard sci-fi is speculative fiction for the obsessive. Such stories dive deeper than others into raw science, explaining how the exact orbital mechanics of a spacecraft work, how a synthetic consciousness compiles itself from raw code, how a dying star affects planetary gravity, and how lifeforms could exist outside our known laws of physics. In this subgenre, science is the driving narrative force.
26 Years Later, Charles Schulz’s Final Comic Strip Is Still an All-Time Peanuts Classic
While that was the first official Peanuts comic, a similar comic by Charles Schulz predated Peanuts and ran in Minnesota’s St. Paul Pioneer Press. It was called Li’l Folks and it also starred cute little children, although it did not have a regular cast like Peanuts would. Li’l Folks ran from 1947 until 1950, when Schulz quit after his editor refused to give him a raise from the $10 per comic he was making. After that, Schulz brought Li’l Folks to United Feature Syndicate.
GOTY 2026’s Final Nomination Is a Battleground of 8/10 Games
One rung below this level, though — alright, maybe two rungs below, after the likes of Resident Evil Requiem and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave — exists a mass of big games that were solid, impressive, and roundly satisfying, all of which got good-but-maybe-not-great reviews from critics. This is where we find all of 2026's blockbuster hopefuls that aren't Grand Theft Auto 6 on one side, or critical misfires like Marvel's Wolverine and Crimson Desert on the other. There are loads of them. And they're all pretty great.
65 Years Ago, The Twilight Zone Aired Its Creepiest Episode
The Twilight Zone’s terror successfully bypassed television censorship of the 1960s with speculative fiction. Over five seasons, Serling, as host and writer, examined science, superstition, prejudice, and identity. While there's no dearth of scary Twilight Zone episodes, such as “Eye of the Beholder” and “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet,” one particular season 3 episode truly manages to go under the skin in ways that fans of modern horror won’t be able to shake.
10 Erotic Thrillers to Watch After Verity
Verityis out in theaters. Starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett, the film follows Lowen (Johnson), a struggling writer presented with a life-changing opportunity: ghostwriting the unfinished novel of Verity Crawford (Hathaway), one of the world's biggest authors. She accepts and soon finds herself living in Verity’s home and entangled with her husband, Jeremy (Hartnett). The snag is that Verity, left incapacitated from an accident, lies in a bed upstairs.
31 Years Ago, ‘X-Files’ Reached Its Zenith with a Near-Perfect 3-Part Thriller
Immediately upon entering World War II, America faced the problem of its messages being intercepted by Germany, Italy, and Japan. As such, the American military needed to develop a code that couldn’t easily be broken. Early in 1942, Los Angeles civil engineer Philip Johnston proposed a solution. Having spent much of his youth on a Navajo reservation, and being one of the few non-Navajo people on Earth who understood the Navajo language, Johnston suggested the military recruit Navajos and use their language to communicate vital war information.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Is Still the Best Uncharted Game
If reports are to be believed, Naughty Dog is bringing back Uncharted. That's a tall order considering 2016's Uncharted 4: A Thief's End served as a pretty satisfying conclusion to Nathan Drake's story. How in the world, fans must be wondering, do you follow that up? Thankfully, Naughty Dog has reportedly tapped Shaun Escayg for the revival. Escayg is the perfect person to lead Uncharted into a post-Nathan Drake future, because he's already done it once before.
Stephen King’s Bleakest Movie, With an Ending He Couldn’t Imagine, Is Free on Streaming
Stephen King movie adaptations have had a strange habit of becoming larger than the books that inspired them. The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile gave director Frank Darabont two of the most beloved King adaptations ever made, while films like The Shining, Misery, and Carriehave become foundational pieces of horror cinema. Of course, King adaptations are notorious for taking massive liberties with their source material.
Netflix Sets The Witcher Season 5’s Fate
Since 2019, The Witcher fans have enjoyed ups and downs as Netflix adapted Andrzej Sapkowski's book series into live-action and animated series. With season 4 of The Witcher reaching a nadir, as Henry Cavill stepped down as Geralt of Rivia and Liam Hemsworth stepped in, fans have been hopeful that the fifth and final season could turn things around — or at least finally wrap up Geralt's live-action story.
One of the Most Controversial Films Ever Gets 4K, NC-17 Release
Fifty-five years after its original release, director Ken Russell's historical psychological horror-drama filmThe Devils is being released as the filmmaker intended: uncensored and uncut. A new 4K restoration of Ken Russell's The Devils is coming to movie theaters in October, and it will carry an NC-17 rating due to its graphic portrayal of violence and sex.
A RuneScape Animated Show Is Coming With a World-Famous Content Creator Attached
Alongside the announcement that RuneScape 4 is now in development at Jagex, more news coming out of RuneFest is that the beloved MMO is getting an animated adaptation. Details are slim right now, but we know that it's coming from Lyrical Animation, a division of independent film production company Lyrical Media.
Amazon’s New 8-Episode Action Spinoff Dethrones Reacher to Become No. 1 Streaming Series
Prime Video's adaptation of Lee Child's Jack Reacher book series is an unstoppable force on streaming. Across four seasons (with at least two more to come), Reacher has dominated Prime Video streaming charts, garnering more than 200 million viewers to date. With the recent conclusion of season 4 of Reacher, Amazon MGM strategically expanded the action franchise with a spinoff that has since knocked Alan Ritchson's series from the No. 1 spot.
The 7 Best Games Like Hollow Knight: Silksong to Speed Up the Wait for Sea of Sorrows
Just a few months afterHollow Knight: Silksong launched, developer Team Cherry announced a DLC expansion called Sea of Sorrows, set to come out sometime in 2026. But the year — and this is hard to believe — is starting to come to a close, with not even a whisper of a release date yet. History is starting to repeat itself.
Overwatch’s Most Radical Hero Rework in Years is Coming Soon
One of the most challenging hero reworks in Overwatch's 10-year history is almost here. With season 5 of Blizzard's hero shooter, damage hero Sombra is moving to the support role as the developer attempts a radical rework that has proven somewhat controversial. Some Sombra mains aren't thrilled about becoming a healer.
'Futurama' Series Finales Ranked: All 6 of Them, From Worst to Best
“One thing we take pride in at Futurama is that we have a lot of practice writing last episodes ever.”
The 8 Best Games Like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of, if not the best, RPGs of all time. 11 years after launch, everyone's playing it again thanks to a fancy new remaster (that's free for anyone who owns the existing game), meant to prep players for the Songs of the Past expansion that's in the works. However, Songs of the Past doesn't arrive until 2027, and the next mainline entry, The Witcher 4,is not coming until 2028, which means there's a big Witcher-sized hole to fill in our gaming backlogs.
Ace Combat 8 Secretly Has the Best Video Game Music of the Year
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is one of the best video games I’ve played in 2026, and there are plenty of reasons why. It has airtight flying controls, features a diversity of thrilling missions, revitalizes a series that’s been silent for years, and happens to be one of the best-looking games of this console generation. But the most astonishing thing about Bandai Namco’s aerial action game is its music.
‘Game Changer’ Season 9 Will Have “Unexplainable” Games, Dropout CEO Sam Reich Reveals
For a moment, Dropout CEO and Game Changer host Sam Reich wondered if he could get away with not going to Topeka, Kansas.
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Doesn’t Have to Be a Slog
I admire Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave approach to bigness. What stood out to me during the review period and since is how many ways it lets you tailor free time and some battles to your needs, even if that tailoring means skipping certain things entirely. So I was surprised after Fortune's Weave launched on Sept. 17 to see a rising number of complaints around the internet about how oppressively big and unnecessarily bloated the game is, as if it took the wrong lessons from Three Houses and then multiplied them.
GTA Creator Has Avoided GTA 6 While Making New Open-World Games
While Dan Houser is best known as one of Rockstar's co-founders and for creatively spearheading the first five Grand Theft Auto games, he founded Absurd Ventures in 2023 to make new creative projects, including video games. He teased the first two games that we can expect from Absurd Ventures, confirming that one is a comedic open-world game.
‘Lanterns’ Makes Even More Sense If You Know About DC’s Iconic 20-Year-Old Meme
HBO Max's Lanterns has made the cosmic side of the DC Universe more popular than it's been in a while. Largely due to the adventures of the Green Lantern Corps, DC has a well-established galactic scene, full of feuding aliens, killer robots, space cops, and a giant wall made from dead gods that marks the far edge of existence.
Resident Evil Dev Capcom Plans To Embrace AI In Game Development
A Capcom developer recently made some eyebrow-raising statements about integrating AI into RE Engine, the game engine Capcom uses to make games like Resident Evil Requiem, Pragmata, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. While it hasn't fully embraced generative AI to create in-game content yet, Capcom outlined a goal to forge "a future where we create games together with AI."
‘Simpsons’ Executive Producer Officially Breaks Silence on a Major Fan Theory
This past weekend, The Simpsons launched its 38th season with "The Children's Book Job,” featuring guest star Emma Thompson. Owen Wilson and Meg Ryan will also appear this season, as well as returning favorite Joe Mantegna as Fat Tony. All of this was discussed in Polygon's recent interview with co-executive producer Mike Price, but while we had him on the phone, we couldn’t resist asking him about some of the most pressing questions from the Simpsons fandom.
Gamers Will Recognize The Studio Making The Battlefield Movie
Several movie studios have been fighting over the rights to make a film based on the Battlefield video game franchise. A winner has reportedly emerged, and it's one with connections to gaming: Sony Pictures.
Arc Raiders Will Temporarily Go Free-to-Play Alongside Major Update
October is looking like a busy month for Arc Raiders. On Oct. 8, the Frozen Trail update is set to go live. Not long after this, a PvE matchmaking beta test will also become available, delivering a much more relaxed Arc Raiders experience that friendly players have been requesting. The cherry on top is that everyone will get a chance to try the Frozen Trail update, as its release date coincides with Arc Raiders' free-to-play weekend.
Pokémon Winds and Waves Could Completely Change Pokémon Forever
It's hardly surprising. The increasing amount of time and money it takes to make video games is an extremely well-established fact at this point. And it's fair to say that Pokémon fans are getting off lightly; it has, after all, been 13 years since the last Grand Theft Auto game.
5 Timeless 'Calvin and Hobbes' Comics That Prove Bill Watterson Is In a League of his Own
You wouldn't think there was much left to discuss about Calvin and Hobbes. The strip ended 30 years ago last December and there have been no serious attempts at an official revival, or even major follow-up projects from its creator Bill Watterson. Since C&H ended, Watterson's only other published project is 2023's The Mysteries, an illustrated "fable for grown-ups" made as a collaboration with John Kascht. The rumor for years has been that Watterson spends most of his time painting landscapes and burning the result.
NBC’s Unbeatable 98-Episode Action Thriller Is Officially Free to Watch on Streaming
Television in the 1980s had a somewhat flexible relationship with reality. Cars could jump over just about anything, a good punch could solve most problems and, seemingly every small town in America was being terrorized by a biker gang. But even by those standards, The A-Team existed in a universe all its own.
Game of Thrones’ Biggest Villain Is Even More Terrifying in an Upcoming Official Release
PlaySide Studios based its upcoming real-time strategy game Game of Thrones: War for Westeroson the hit HBO series, using the likeness of actors like Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Kit Harington, and Emilia Clarke for the hero units you can field in battle. But while the first gameplay trailer emphasizes familiar faces fighting for the Iron Throne, it also hides a monster that was referenced in the series but never appeared on screen.
45 Years Ago, a Failed Lord of the Rings Movie Became a Film That Transcended Fantasy
In the late 15th century, a man named Thomas Malory, whose identity is still debated by scholars, wrote Le Morte d’Arthur, a compilation of legends, chivalric poems, and folklore related to King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Five centuries later, British director John Boorman (Deliverance, Hope and Glory) turned that source material into a movie that is still considered a milestone in the history of fantasy cinema (even if it’s hard to classify as “fantasy”). Excalibur is bold, ambitious, and above all, uncompromising.
Sicario 3 is Happening with Taylor Sheridan Returning to Write
Taylor Sheridan has become one of the most popular and prolific TV writers of the last decade, thanks to series like Yellowstone, Landman, and Dutton Ranch. The creator is also known for creating three of the best crime thrillers of the 2010s, with back-to-back-to-back successes in Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Wind River. After nearly a decade of focusing on television and pumping out Yellowstone seasons and spinoffs, Sheridan is returning to the film franchise that made him a household name.
Dimension 20 Best Season to Start? 6 Campaigns to Get Into Dropout’s D&D Show
After performing for nearly 20,000 fans at a sold-out Madison Square Garden in January 2025, Dimension 20 cemented its status as one of the internet’s most popular tabletop live-play shows. But despite the show’s increasingly mainstream profile, figuring out where to start can still be intimidating. Most seasons require a paid subscription to either Dropout.tv or its YouTube channel, and the catalog now encompasses dozens of campaigns spread across several different tabletop systems.
Steam Horror Game Turns PS1-Era Graphics Into Backrooms-Style Nightmare Fuel
There is something uniquely unsettling about empty video game spaces. Blown wide open in the wake of Backrooms, the concept of liminal horror has seeped out from internet forums and chat rooms to become a subculture all its own. But while a photorealistic house filled with blood and corpses has its own macabre dread, there’s something even more unsettling about PS1-era graphics, where blocky textures and eerie lighting can make even a mundane street corner feel steeped in Lovecraftian horror.
12 New Horror Movies to Watch in October on Netflix, HBO, and Hulu
Spooky season is here, and all the major streaming services are boosting their horror offerings to appeal to viewers who want to start getting into the Halloween spirit early. As the temperatures drop and the nights get longer, October is the perfect time to make some popcorn, curl up on the couch, and watch some movies designed to give you nightmares.
Quentin Tarantino’s First Movie Sequel Officially Arrives Next Month
Seven years after the fact, Quentin Tarantino's period action-drama Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood is getting an official sequel, just not one directed by Tarantino himself. Seven and Fight Club director David Fincher is helming the direct sequel instead with a new story that focuses on Brad Pitt's stuntman character Cliff Booth. We got our first look at The Adventures of Cliff Booth back in February, when Netflix released a teaser trailer for the sequel. Soon, we'll get the movie itself, as Cliff Booth is set to return in November.
Fire Emblem Fans Just Cracked Fortune’s Weave’s Biggest Mystery (Maybe)
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave's protagonist, Eshmel (or whatever you call them), is a lot like Three Houses' Byleth. They say little, someone else's soul inhabits their body, and despite ostensibly having no personality, they're the most important person (well, construct) in the empire. You never learn who Eshmel is outright, but some folks are pretty sure they know the protagonist's real identity. And I'm inclined to believe them.
There’s Literally Never Been a Better Time to Get Into Tactics Games
The tactics genre is undergoing an undeniable renaissance right now, and has been for a little while. However, I'm someone who, until recently, never gave it a fair shot; I played a lot of Worms as a kid, not to mention the incredible Hogs of War, but those were as close as I got to the genre. Despite hearing great things about the XCOM series, the first time I properly got stuck into a tactics game was with Marvel's Midnight Sunsin 2022.
10 New Movies to Watch this Weekend on Prime Video, HBO Max, and Hulu (October 2-4)
Happy weekend! It’s a big one for theatrical releases, with Tom Cruise’s Diggerfinally out. While divisive, Cruise is expected to be featured somewhere in the awards conversation, although an abysmal box office performance could torpedo those dreams. On the other side of the spectrum, there’s Verity, a throwback to the beloved erotic thrillers of years past, following an affair between a struggling writer and a hot dad. Somewhere in all of this, there’s his paralyzed wife.
New Fast and Furious Release Now Streaming on Peacock
The Fast & Furious franchise has been around for so long that it's difficult to find a corner of pop culture it hasn't somehow collided with. What started as a movie about street racing has expanded into video games, toys, theme-park attractions, and crossovers with everything from Fortnite to Rocket League. At this point, it might feel like there isn't a crossover left that could surprise you.
How to Get Pokémon’s Special Mewtwo 30th Anniversary Card
The hyped release of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's 30th anniversary set is nearly here, and fans intent on catching them all have one more item to add to the checklist. In addition to securing pre-orders, beating the overnight lines, and avoiding scalpers, dedicated fans may want to seek out a special Mewtwo card that won't come in any of the standard 30th anniversary products.
5 TMNT Episodes That Prove the Original Was Better Than ‘X-Men: The Animated Series’
X-Men ’97 now has two full seasons available to stream on Disney Plus, and the show has proved that Marvel’s animated revival is much more than a nostalgia exercise. The series remains the epic, comic-book-faithful action fest fans hoped it would be, thanks in large part to Marvel’s decision to make it a direct continuation of the original X-Men: The Animated Series rather than “just another X-Mencartoon.”
30 Years Later, Nintendo’s Forgotten N64 Racing Game Deserves a Switch 2 Rebirth
When the Nintendo 64 launched in North America on Sep. 29, 1996, many of us only had eyes for a portly plumber. He was all over our television screens, using brief ad spots to entice us with his beautiful 3D worlds and jumps of joy. Our overwhelming desire to get our hands on Super Mario 64 was intensified by the fact that other than Pilotwings 64, there weren’t any other options available when the console came out. Then, just over a month later, Nintendo launched Wave Race 64 to keep those other two games company.

Nintendo Switch 2 Just Got 2 of the Last Decade’s Best RPGs
Two of Square Enix's best RPGs of the last 10 years landed on Nintendo Switch 2 over the last two weeks, Dragon Quest 11S and Octopath Traveler 2. There's a Switch 2 port of the first Octopath Traveler as well, though it's not quite a modern classic like the other two. Square Enix did a Square Enix and released these without an upgrade path or the option to carry save files over, so it's hard to recommend them if you're happy enough with the versions you already own.
12 Replay Ideas That Make Zelda: TOTK Feel Like a Brand-New Game
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom pretty much always merits a replay. Or two. Or fifteen. There’s always another sky island you’ve skipped, or a cave you haven’t fully explored. By the 1970s, both characters had ceased to appear in the strip at all.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is the Best Arcade Racing Game in a Generation
I'm not talking about the Star Wars licensing, even though this is the first Star Wars racing game since 2002. Although, now I mention it, we should savor that too. Galactic Racer sure makes the most of it, with its bombastic John Williams-esque orchestral soundtrack, its vivid cast of squabbling alien racers, its stark planetary biomes, and above all, the thrilling roars, flutters, and screams of its audio design. Speed never sounded so good as it does in Star Wars.

If none of that takes your fancy, you can always just keep it for later, too.
How Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Connects to Three Houses
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave works just fine as a standalone game you can enjoy without any knowledge of Three Houses. Nintendo's done little to highlight these connections, to the point where quite a few people still aren't sure if Fortune's Weave is a prequel or sequel. So we've listed some of the bigger connections below.

For decades, scholars have been warning us about the dangers of nostalgia as a political tool. But scholars be damned, I’m having a lot of fun playing The Witcher 3 in 2026, and I’m not ashamed of it. The pleasure of rediscovering this classic also made me appreciate even more the excellent job that developer CD Projekt Red did in adapting Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy world in a way that is respectful and faithful, even if not entirely accurate to the source material.

Ghost of Yōtei’s New DLC Should Have Been in the Game from the Very Start
But she mostly remains static; a singular force hellbent on revenge at all costs. Ghost of Yōtei doesn’t explore the costs until near the end of Atsu’s journey. The game’s new expansion, Echoes of Sekigahara, does the opposite — it’s all about consequences as it adds new layers of depth to Atsu. In fact, it fleshes out her character so much that it’s almost a shame it wasn’t part of the game at launch and is instead an optional add-on 12 months later.

When you think about Nintendo, the first thing that comes to mind likely isn't adroit political commentary. It's not something the company frequently, or really ever, engages in. Even Monolith Soft's famously big-picture Xenoblade gamestend toward philosophy more than politics. Up to this point, developer Intelligent Systems has limited the political messaging in its Fire Emblem series to messages such as "don't get in bed with dragons" (literally and metaphorically) and "when the king starts laughing maniacally, stop giving him power."
New 'Pokémon' Release Is Essential for All Eevee Fans
With eight official Eeveelutions, fans of the beloved normal-type Pokémon aren't hurting for options — yet paradoxically, they're also one of the most neglected segments of the fandom. After all, it's been 13 years since Game Freak introduced a new Eevee monster in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. With 18 standard Pokémon types in the games, that means we haven't seen even half of the possible Eeveelution concepts. Never mind the number of Eeveelutions that would be possible if Pokémon's developers ever started combining Eeveelution types.
Xbox CEO Officially Responds to Xbox Sale Rumors
In a tumultuous year for the Xbox division, in which thousands of employees are being laid off and Xbox Game Studios is being broken up, the new CEO of Microsoft's gaming group is resolute on one thing: Despite rumors and speculation to the contrary, Xbox is not for sale. The company has slimmed down its portfolio this year, divesting from four studios and canceling projects.

8 Most Entertaining Sci-Fi Books of the 21st Century
Science fiction writers imagine the future in order to explore humanity’s present and past, providing a mix of cautionary tales and social commentary. Books about artificial intelligence, alien encounters, and galaxy-spanning wars are often filled with dense explanations of theoretical technologies or complex political factions. While dry and heavy sci-fi can be extremely rewarding to read, the genre also offers plenty of lighter options filled with humor and adventure.
Modern Warfare 4’s New ‘Counter-Strike’ Mode Officially Announced
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is taking a page from Counter-Strike with a new multiplayer mode built around one of the classic shooter's defining mechanics: buying your gear with money earned during the match. Called Collateral, the new mode puts an economy system on top of the familiar Search and Destroy formula, creating a version of Call of Duty where every death and purchase could have consequences.

WoW: Forever’s New Race Doesn’t Fit into World of Warcraft At All
Many of the players pouring into the beta are, like me, rolling characters in Forever's new elf race, the Skyborne. I wonder what proportion of them have chosen to play Skyborne in the beta because — like me, again — they are curious, but they wouldn't dream of rolling one of these blue sky elves for real when the game launches on Nov. 4.
The Best Final Fantasy Mmo Is Now Easier to Play Than Ever
Have you heard of the critically acclaimed Final Fantasy 14? Well, what about its older, even better sibling, Final Fantasy 11? While Square Enix's first foray into a massively multiplayer Final Fantasy game is over two decades old, it is still alive and well. As a matter of fact, the game has just become easier to play than ever thanks to a long-awaited change to its free trial. So now you really have no excuse not to play it.
Astarion’s New ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ Prequel Story Was Doomed From the Start
In 2023, Larian Studios' venture into Dungeons & Dragons’ Forgotten Realms with Baldur’s Gate 3was a major success — and not just for the studio. Much like Critical Role’s arrival inspired many nerds to take a new interest in tabletop role-playing games, Baldur’s Gate 3 had a similar effect.
Silent Hill: Townfall’s Hardest Boss Is Getting Nerfed
Just about a week after Silent Hill: Townfall's release, developer Screen Burn has released a patch that hopes to address some early technical frustrations with the horror game. Control Resonant Hides Its Best Part 15 Hours Into the Game
There are plenty of memorable moments in Control Resonant. Seeing the twisted streets of Manhattan for the first time, a gorgeous area that’s covered in cotton candy-like mold, an astonishing boss fight against a floating head — there’s a lot to love, even if you’re less sold on the moment-to-moment action. But my favorite segment of Resonant isn’t any of its flashy moments designed specifically to blow your mind; it’s the game’s most stripped-down location.
'GTA 5' Modder Cancels Switch Port After Mocking Rockstar Backfires
In late September, after their attempt to port Grand Theft Auto 5 to Switch went viral online, a modder named M0jso was feeling invincible. Rockstar Games had recently announced that modifying its games to run on unofficial platforms was against the rules, and that breaking them could lead to a ban or account termination. M0jso evidently didn't care. "Try me rockstar," the modder wrote on social media site X. "idgaf."
'Reacher' Meets 'The Terminator' in Prime Video's New Christmas Heist Movie
Christmas has come early for Reacher and War Machine star Alan Ritchson. His hit Prime Video television series Reacherwas renewed for a sixth season just days after the season 4 finale streamed, and the show has become one of the streaming service’s biggest hits. While a release date for season 5 hasn’t been announced yet, Ritchson will return to Prime Video in December as he teams up with Arnold Schwarzenegger to save Christmas.
Secretlab ATLAS Dune+ Review
I’ve never felt more watched than I do now that I have upgraded from a chair so “budget-friendly” that it could barely be called a chair to a Secretlab ATLAS. It’s wonderfully comfortable, really great for my posture, and super easy to adjust to my build. My only woe now is that I have traded poor back positioning to a hilariously unique smidgen of psychological discomfort.

Every romanceable character in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt
Not all romances in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are created equally. While some romanceable characters are mere flings, others may become the love of Geralt's life. Whether you wish to stay faithful to Triss or Yennefer, try to seduce half the female population, or are looking for that one unicorn scene, this Witcher 3 romance guide can help you out.

Sony Officially Adds Requirement for Buying PS5 Pro
Sony is struggling to meet the high consumer demand for the PlayStation 5 Pro, the more powerful version of the PS5, and console prices are steeper than ever, in part due to the rising cost of RAM and other components needed to make the console. Furthermore, scalpers are reselling the PS5 Pro at astronomical prices, making it difficult, if not impossible, for many gamers to get their hands on.
Danny Boyle Officially Updates Fans on 28 Years Later 3’s Fate
January feels like a lifetime ago at this point, so I wouldn't blame you for forgetting that 28 Years Later: The Bone Templecame out this year. The sequel to 2025's 28 Years Later, set in Danny Boyle's thrilling zombie horror world, is a stunning film that revitalizes the genre and sets the stage for the conclusion of a planned trilogy. Despite the quick turnaround of the first two 28 Years Later films, the third entry hasn't made any movement, but Boyle is offering fans some hope.
Resident Evil Meets Little Nightmares in Terrifying New Horror Game
Combining the eerie atmosphere of Little Nightmares with the thrills of a ‘90s sci-fi horror flick, End of Abyss delivers an unnerving descent into a blue-toned hell. It invites obvious comparisons to James Cameron’s The Abyss, but it's more comparable to getting lost in an empty mall at night as a child. Your bobble-headed hero is so tiny, and the steel around them seems to stretch on forever.
Crimson Desert’s Charting the Unknown DLC Officially Delayed
Crimson Desert is one of 2026's biggest games, both in terms of its explorable open world and its reach; it has sold over six million copies. It's no surprise, then, that developer Pearl Abyss' RPG is going to get even bigger with an upcoming expansion. However, players are going to have to wait just a bit longer to dive into that DLC.

As it turns out, you don't even need a digital copy of the game on the Switch 2.
Verity Review: Hathaway and Johnson Have Fun. The Movie Doesn't
I love erotic thrillers. There’s just something irresistible about watching characters throw their lives and their sanity away for the chance to sleep with the object of their desires. Like Basic Instinct, in which detective Nick Curran falls into bed with Catherine Tramell, a crime novelist who might just be describing the murder he’s investigating. It makes no sense, but everyone involved is so committed to their melodramatic vision that it works.
Xbox’s Disc-to-Digital Feature Is Officially Out to the Public
In the past month, Xbox has received feedback from Insiders who got early access to the disc-to-digital program. That feedback has helped the company improve the feature before its public release. A system update rolled out in the early hours of Sept. 30, finally implementing the highly anticipated disc-to-digital feature for all Xbox Series X and Xbox One owners.

Ready Player One’s New Adaptation is Truer to the Book than Spielberg’s Movie
Ernest Cline’s 2011 novel Ready Player One was an enormous hit, engrossing readers with a dystopian adventure filled with nerdy ‘80s references. A prominent early example of the LitRPG boom, it’s set in a near future where humans spend most of their time in a virtual world called the OASIS. The simulation began as an MMORPG, and its brilliant creator, James Donovan Halliday, bequeathed control of the OASIS to whoever can find a set of keys to pass through various gates.

14 Years Later, Doctor Who’s Most Heartbreaking Episode a Perfect Love Story
Perhaps because I watched the entire series so quickly, the Weeping Angels began to feel a bit overused, prompting me to roll my eyes every time they popped up on screen. That’s mainly because of the series 5 two-parter, “The Time of Angels” and “Flesh and Stone,” which involves an entire army of Weeping Angels on an alien planet in the distant future. “Blink” works because it’s a more intimate and claustrophobic story; “Flesh and Stone” doesn’t because it does too much.
The 5 most brilliant sci-fi movie quotes of the decade
There are still a few years left in the 2020s, but it’s already been a fantastic decade for science fiction movies. The Dune films are likely the biggest highlight, as director Denis Villeneuve has finally brought the proper scale to Frank Herbert’s novels from the 1960s.

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System followed up the NES with a spectacular lineup of 16-bit games from all over the map, including simulation, RPG, sports, adventure, and of course platformer titles. With the exception of the many licensed greats that are unlikely to ever be offered on such a service, Nintendo’s Switch Online service has brought back many of the greatest hits from the SNES library, and they’re now available to play as part of your subscription.

10 Game Cancellations That Are Still Devastating Years Later
Sometimes, it’s fun to think about the great games that might have been — until they were canceled without ever getting the chance to make their mark. Most of the time, we just shrug our shoulders and move on, because that’s life. But sometimes, we mourn the wasted potential.

8 Games With Magic Systems So Detailed Brandon Sanderson Would Be Proud
Sanderson has been in talks with studios, off and on, about bringing his own magic systems to a video game. It’s easy to see why: Each power he writes links to a specific substance with a learnable effect…which already sounds like an RPG’s skill tree just waiting to happen. Swap steel in a Sanderson book for a wand component in Noita or a Keese eyeball in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and the same principle holds: One input, one repeatable output, every time.

Now, we know which one is on deck next.

An NFL Legend Is About to Reveal the Minecraft City He Spent 12 Years Building
Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has set plenty of records throughout his career. After winning the 2008 AFC Championship Game, he became the youngest NFL head coach to reach a Super Bowl. A few weeks later, he became the youngest coach to win a Super Bowl (Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay has since surpassed both records). In his 19 years with the Steelers, Tomlin never had a losing season — the longest such streak in the league’s history.

Readers are reporting a number of issues accessing the new GTA 6 material hours after the magazine officially released it.
Lego Officially Retiring Star Wars and X-Men Sets in 2026
Most Lego sets are here for a good time, not a long time. The Lego Company regularly cycles older builds out of active production to make room for new ones. After stock runs out in stores, they become exclusively available through secondary markets like eBay, where they fetch much higher prices than their original market value. Earlier this month, Brick Fanatics compiled a list of every Lego set being discontinued at the end of 2026, and there are some real heavyweights in the bunch.
Brendan Fraser’s 124-Minute Action Thriller Classic Is Back From the Dead on Streaming
Brendan Fraser has had one hell of a career. He went from playing a lovable goofball in Encino Man to battling dinosaurs in Journey to the Center of the Earth, winning an Oscar for The Whale, and, of course, becoming an unlikely action hero in one of the biggest adventure franchises of the late ’90s and early 2000s.

Guillermo Del Toro Officially Confirms He Almost Directed the Bioshock Movie
Even as video game adaptations continue to be in vogue, Hollywood's white whale has been BioShock. That might come as a surprise considering just how well suited the massively influential 2007 shooter is to a cinematic take, as well as the fact that attempts at an adaptation have been happening just about as long as the game has been out. At one point, it was rumored that horror director Guillermo del Toro was involved, though this was never confirmed — until now.

Digger is the most important movie of the century, but I can’t tell you why
But because this is a spoiler-free review, per an embargo I agreed to in order to see the film, I can't talk about any of that stuff. Thankfully, there’s still plenty to talk about in this overwhelming, overly ambitious apocalypse comedy.
How to evolve Applin into Flapple, Appletun, and Dipplin in Pokémon Go
Applin has made its Pokémon Go debut, alongside its two original evolutions, Flapple and Appletun, and its other evolutions Dipplinand Hydrapple, added in a later event. With Applin, there’s a (kind of) new mechanic in the game that involves picking up items off the floor — something we saw vaguely tested during the April Fools’ 2025 event with Poké Balls.

The sneak peek at Diablo 5 reveals a world in utter desolation as legions of demons kill and crucify angels in Sanctuary, where the surviving humans kneel to the Lord of Terror. The game takes place around 100 years after its predecessor

‘The Witcher 3 Remastered’ Pirates Are Encouraging Each Other To Buy It Instead
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is officially out on PC now, which also means it's available on piracy sites. This isn't a case of a lightning-fast game crack, but rather the inevitability of what happens when a video game is released without digital rights management (DRM) software. For most companies, this piracy scenario would be a nightmare on launch day. CD Projekt Red, however, released a game like this on purpose — and it's earned immense favor with people who might otherwise play without spending a dime.
Avengers: Doomsday Directors Confirm Hulk’s Fate After Endgame Encore
It has almost become a tradition for the next MCU movie's big twists to be figured out by fans long before the film's actual release, forcing the directors and actors to play coy for months. The most recent example of this revolved around Sadie Sink's role as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which wasn't confirmed before the movie's release despite it being the worst-kept secret in the world. Now the Russo Brothers are going through the cycle again ahead of Avengers: Doomsday after being pressed with questions about Mark Ruffalo's Hulk.

Avengers: Endgame Writer Reveals Alternate Fate for a Major Character
With Avengers: Doomsday on the horizon, Disney has released a slightly recut version of the film’s predecessor, Avengers Endgame: Encore, which ties more naturally into its sequel. In short, McFeely divulged that in the film’s pivotal Soul Stone sacrifice scene, it was almost Hawkeye who sacrificed his life instead of Black Widow.

In addition to the excitement around the remaster, CD Projekt Red has also released a new tease for the game's upcoming expansion,Songs of the Past. Appropriately enough, the tease has to do with music.
The Next Monster Hunter Game Officially Gets a Release Date
The next Monster Hunter game is out soon, although it may not be what you expect. Monster Hunter Outlanders is a free-to-play, mobile-only installment being developed by TiMi Studio Group. That may not sound particularly appealing, but before you dismiss Outlanders out of hand, it’s worth noting that, for a mobile title, what we’ve seen so far looks surprisingly similar to traditional entries in the series.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Is the Rare RPG that Tackles Religion Correctly
The way RPGs handle religion is something of a meme. Are bad things happening? Might want to see what the local bishop is getting up to. An evil organization is oppressing the masses? It's probably the church. You should go kill god while you're saving the world, just to be on the safe side.

Nearly half of Baldur’s Gate 3 runs never make it past the game’s first act. That’s not to say half of the game’s players have never seen Act 2, necessarily: Steam’s data includes copies bought in a sale and never opened, and some mods disable achievement tracking, for example. But the data does tell us something. Per Steam, 89.1% of all players have cleared the Nautiloid tutorial, but only 50.2% have unlocked the achievement for leaving Act 1.

Fire Emblem Just Completely Shook Up a Tired RPG Villain Twist
It’s very common for RPGs to introduce an off-stage villain who’s been secretly pulling the strings all along. Usually, this is some kind of malevolent supernatural being who doesn’t like humanity very much. After a lot of bloviating about the nature of free will, you and your companions must defeat him with the power of friendship, cool swords, and boob armor.
29 Years Ago, ‘Buffy’ Introduced Its Best Villain. He Was Never Meant to Last
In the history of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, nobody has ever made an entrance quite like Spike. After crashing his car into a Welcome to Sunnydale sign, he emerges, clad in his iconic leather duster. He lights up a cigarette and says to no one in particular: "Home sweet home."
10 Essential NES Games Still Missing From Switch Online
The Nintendo Entertainment System is credited with rescuing a flailing industry back in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. Over the years, hundreds of amazing games launched for the console, and many of the best and most memorable of them are now available to play on Nintendo Switch Online. However, dozens of other fantastic titles still haven’t reached the service, and that needs to change. Out of those dozens remaining, here are 10 NES games that still need to come to Switch Online as soon as possible.
Switch Finally Gets One of 2025’s Best-Reviewed RPGs
2025 was such a loaded year for games that I can’t really blame anyone for missing its wealth of hidden gems. There was just too much to play, especially when it came to RPGs. Thankfully, the universe is giving you a second chance to try one of the genre’s best games last year: Keep Driving.
GTA 6’s $400 Collector’s Edition Is the Latest Example of a Horrible Trend
Spendy deluxe editions are nothing new in the world of video games. For many years now, players have had the option to pay a bit more than retail price — often between $20 and $50 extra — for a bundle of extra goodies to enhance a new game they're looking forward to playing. These special editions typically include stuff like alternate cover art, powerful in-game items, soundtracks, art books, or the occasional display-worthy figurine. But lately, the prices have started to get pretty wild. Grand Theft Auto 6 is no exception.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Getting Official New Version, Report Says
As Marvel Studios' recent release of Avengers Endgame: Encore proves, blockbuster movies can still dominate the box office, even after a multibillion dollar run. Sony is reportedly planning a rerelease of Spider-Man: Brand New Day to bring web-head-heads back to movie theaters — and like Endgame: Encore, the studio is adding new footage of Spider-Man's latest flick as an incentive.
Best new video games of 2026 (so far)
We've still got a bit to go until we can seriously start considering Polygon's 2026 game of the year, but as December quickly approaches, plenty of games from 2026 remain on our minds. These are just some of the games that have resonated with us throughout the year, and it's only the tip of the iceberg. We'll be working through our 2026 backlogs for years to come at this rate, and the year isn't even over yet.
Dressmaker Players Are Having a Blast Secretly Ruining Dresses
Every service job has that one customer that really has it coming to them. Dressmaker is the rare game that offers you a hilarious opportunity for catharsis, should you be so inclined. On its surface, this is a cozy little sewing sim: You pick fabric, cut a pattern, and stitch buttons on by hand. You deliver a dress, then get a nice thank-you and a tip. It’s the kind of game you’d expect to play with a cup of tea and zero stakes for the ASMR vibes and quick burst of dopamine a la Powerwash Simulator or Unpacking.
Pokémon TCG’s Next Big Set Available Weeks Before It Officially Releases
It's hard to remember that with the Pokémon 30th Anniversary set soaking up so much attention the Pokémon Trading Card Game is getting a new set in early November. The Rayquaza-themed Delta Reign set comes with some of the year's best special illustration cards and a two-card Stadium mechanic that will keep players on their toes. The best part about the release, however, has to be the official options for purchasing it.
All taxi locations in Control Resonant
During "The Last Taxi" side quest in Control Resonant, you'll encounter driverless taxis that honk their horn at you and open their passenger door when you walk nearby. Entering the suspicious taxi will take you to a threshold, which is a different realm full of paranatural abnormalities. In this threshold, you find out there is another woman who is trapped inside, and needs to find a way out. However, to do that, you'll need to solve a few puzzles and find every taxi cab.
Naughty Dog Officially Celebrates Last of Us Day with DLC
Each year in September, Naughty Dog celebrates The Last of Us Day (formerly called Outbreak Day until the studio wisely changed it in 2020). Sept. 26 is the in-game date of the Cordyceps outbreak, and Naughty Dog uses that day as an opportunity to celebrate the franchise with things like new wallpapers, very cool merch, and a trailer for the HBO show. This year, the most notable announcement might be DLC... for an entirely different game series.
Predator: Badlands Director is Taking on a New Disney Reboot
Dan Trachtenberg has spent the past few years proving he can put a fresh spin on some of Hollywood’s most recognizable franchises. After making his feature debut with the tense 2016 thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane, Trachtenberg moved into the Predator universe with 2022’s Prey, followed by Predator: Badlands and the animated Predator: Killer of Killers. Now, he’s turning his attention to another iconic piece of pop culture — but this time, it’s coming from Disney.
Reacher Officially Renewed for Season 6 on Prime Video
Reacher is unstoppable. Just days after season 4 of the action series starring Alan Ritchson aired its season finale — and in the midst of production on season 5 — Prime Video has confirmed that a sixth season of Reacher is officially in the works. That's no surprise, based on the viewership of Reacher season 4: The streamer said the most recent season of the TV show reached 66 million viewers globally in its first 28 days on Prime Video.
Forget ‘Delicious in Dungeon,’ This Cozy Fantasy Graphic Novel Hits the Same Notes
Progression fantasy books like Will Wight’s Cradle series or Matt Dinniman’s Dungeon Crawler Carl usually draw on role-playing game tropes to focus on characters gaining new powers they use to face more dangerous foes. Travis Baldree takes a different approach in his New York Times bestselling novel Legends & Lattes, which focuses on Viv, a mighty orc warrior who decides to give up fighting and open a coffee shop. Instead of training to become stronger, Viv has to slowly build up her business.
Where to find yuna mei in Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave
In Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, you will need yuna mei to rebuild one of the destroyed temples once you reach Part 3. Completing the side quests during the last arc in the game is the best way to prepare your units for the final battle, as you level up and collect powerful rewards. Rebuilding temples gives you access to new classes and quests to unlock power weapons.
Blizzard’s MOBA Is Making An Unexpected Comeback
At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard Entertainment announced a new hero for Heroes of the Storm: Xal’atath. She's now available in Blizzard's MOBA, after a stint on the game's public test realm, and could signal a larger return of support for the game.
Control Resonant Proves Everything Is a Live-Service Game Now
A few weeks before its official Sept. 24 launch date, I played through Control Resonant — in some form. The version of Remedy Entertainment’s trippy action RPG you can play today is so different from what I played that it may as well be entirely new to me. That’s thanks to a much-needed day one patch that completely overhauled combat. Though that doesn’t entirely fix my gripes with what, at the time, I felt was a surprisingly shallow hack-and-slash game filled with placebo progression hooks, it vastly improves Resonant’s fatal flaw.
Dave Franco, Manny Jacinto, and Jenny Slate talk Forgotten Island
Voice actors on an animated studio movie are often distanced from the end result of their work. Voice work typically comes early in production, often years before the movie is completed. The character designs likely aren’t finalized at that point, and the actors often don’t have any idea what the movie they’re making will eventually look like on the screen.
New ‘Pokémon Winds and Waves’ Leaks Fill Major Gap Left by Game Freak’s Silence
It's been crickets since Game Freak first revealedPokémon Winds and Waves— and with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time coming from Nintendo this fall, the information drought is unlikely to end anytime soon. Game Freak didn't say anything about the monster-collecting RPG during the franchise's big yearly event, and there was no 10th generation news tied to any of the 30th Anniversary announcements. Despite this, new Pokémon leaks might be telling fans way more about the game than a second official trailer ever could.
Where to find sandworm meat in Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave
Hunting for some sandworm meat in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave will take you to one of the most challenging areas on the map: the desert of Nysiades. If you have enough money, there is another method to obtain this rare material, but it's not available for every Flame Lord. Once you have enough pieces of meat, you will have the chance to recruit Nezha to your team.

The shiny new version of the studio's 2015 RPG masterpiece brings a lot of quality-of-life improvements to the decade-old game. CD Projekt Red has now released the full patch notes for the remaster — and they're lengthy.
Steam Dev’s Viral GTA Clone Is The Perfect PS2 Throwback
Grand Theft Auto 6 will almost certainly be a huge deal. It's poised to become the biggest game launch of all time, with virtually every rival publisher avoiding its Nov. 19 release date at all costs. However, while plenty of players are obviously excited about this new GTA’s cutting-edge visuals and physics, it seems that there are still old heads eager to play something inspired by the series’ PS2-era shenanigans.
‘Legacy of a Legendary Sculptor’ walkthrough in Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave's "Legacy of a Legendary Sculptor" quest tasks you with deciphering four vague clues in a sort of scavenger hunt around the empire. You're meant to track down four statues of four of Dagda's goddesses, hidden in places relevant to their lives and worship. Mostly. It's a time-consuming task that requires ample free time to complete, but the rewards are quite nice and worth the hassle.
Super Mario Galaxy on PC Is Officially One Step Closer to Being Reality
It's not controversial to say that 2007's Super Mario Galaxy is one of the best Super Mario games ever made. It does, however, have the typical Nintendo downside of being exclusive to the company's walled garden. For a while, that meant players needed to hold on to their Wii consoles, but the game has finally been made available on Nintendo Switch to make things a little easier. Still, everybody else is out of luck. A dedicated group of fans is about to change that.
Target’s Pokémon 30th Anniversary Event Leaves Parents Angry and Confused
Target just held a special Pokémon trading card game 30th Anniversary event on Sept. 27 and — this may be shocking to hear — things went poorly. It was yet another case of too many people wanting Pokémon cards, but with a twist. This time, Pokémon fans who are also parents went into the event expecting preferential treatment. And when they didn't get it, parents left the event feeling frustrated and confused.

16 Years Later, A ‘Let’s Play’ Classic Blows Up on Steam with 750K Wishlists
The internet was a different place in 2010. Generative AI was still dormant, memes were thriving, and "Let's Plays" ruled YouTube. As a free browser game, Happy Wheels caught the attention of popular YouTubers, which turned it into somewhat of a sensation at the time. At some point, it felt like everyone was playing it. Sixteen years later, Happy Wheels has resurfaced following its launch on Steam.

Why Star Wars Fans Are Furious Over the Next Skywalker Saga Movie
Star Wars fans are notorious for not liking Star Wars, but even by those standards, the latest rumors about the series have sparked an impressive amount of doom and gloom. On Saturday, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Spider-Man director Jon Watts has been tapped to direct the next mainline Star Wars movie, which would be “the next phase of a potential new Skywalker Saga.” The film would be part of the previously rumored trilogy that Simon Kinberg is writing.
The 10 Best Games Like Mass Effect

Others have similar mechanics, or are just really, really good at making you and your squad feel very small in a very big universe.
Backrooms Director Reveals Where the Series Should Go Next
In a banner year for horror cinema, one of the most surprising hits has been Backrooms. The feature-film directorial debut from Kane Parsons expertly adapted his viral YouTube series to the big screen to massive critical and box office success. But after YouTube and film, but after YouTube and film, what's left for Parsons and Backrooms? The director seems to have a pretty good answer, revealing his "dream scenario" for the story's next chapter.

Switching it off is only one of many steps, though; you must also find a controller key, enter the correct codes, and fix the valves to successfully complete the mission aptly named "Fix This."
New Target 'Pokémon' Card System Will Make Collectors Very Happy
Online Pokémon trading card game drops are awful across the board, but Target's current system is a special brand of hell. The retailer largely releases TCG content in the wee hours of the night — pushing some collectors to get zero sleep and still have no Pokémon cards to show for it. Based on recent rumors, it seems that Target might be taking a page out of Walmart's playbook. That's a good thing.

The Mummy 4 Set Photos Show First Look at Rachel Weisz’s Return
Millennials who grew up endlessly rewatching 1999's The Mummy on cable got great news last year when it was reported that a new sequel was in the works. Not only will it see the return of Brendan Fraser as Rick O'Connell, but it will also find Rachel Weisz reprising her role as Evie Carnahan after she was absent from the third movie, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Over the weekend, set photos of the upcoming fourth film spread online, showing Evie's new look and offering a hint as to when the next movie will take place.

‘God of War Laufey’ Footage Officially Reveals New Gameplay, Physical Edition
The more Santa Monica Studio shows God of War Laufey, the more it seems to be taking inspiration from the fun-first gameplay of earlier God of War entries. The latest snippet from Sony shows the game’s protagonist, Faye, pulling off Devil May Cry-style air combos as she chains double jumps, kicks, and sword slashes before whipping out her new weapon, the Serpent Bow. It looks rad as hell.
The Witcher 3 Remastered Is Still An Unfinished Masterpiece
In 1550, the Italian artist and biographer Giorgio Vasari used the expression “non finito” (unfinished) to describe some of the works of Michelangelo Buonarroti that presented elements of incompleteness. Over the centuries that followed, many fellow artists and critics came to appreciate that quirk as a fundamental component of Michelangelo’s genius: For example, French painter Eugène Delacroix wrote in 1853 that the unfinished parts made the finished ones more relevant.
Toem 2 Is Somehow Even More Perfect Than Toem
Developer Something We Made struck gold with Toem: A Photo Adventurein 2021. There's something to be said for games that aren't too ambitious — developers who have one idea and stick to it rather than letting themselves get carried away during development. Like a restaurant with a limited menu, the chefs will be masters of that cuisine, and they're not going to waste their time serving food they're not as skilled at cooking.
Minecraft Dungeons 2 Goes from Good Baby Diablo to Great Junior Diablo
Building a sequel to a game like Minecraft Dungeons presents is a tricky balancing act. The rudimentary setup is crying out for new features and a deeper experience. But go too deep, and you risk muddling the purity and approachability that are the game's entire reason to exist.
